"Don't get haughty, but it's a nice weekend"

Postby FCBayernNews » Sat Aug 27, 2016 12:45 pm

The Allianz Arena faithful were in for a rarity in Friday evening's Bundesliga opener against Werder Bremen: Philipp Lahm made it four following a one-two with Thomas Müller, crashing the ball against the inside of the post and over the line. The Bayern captain turned scorer: Carlo Ancelotti knew this was special even though the new Bayern head coach made his Bundesliga debut on the Bayern bench on Friday.

"After his glorious goal I told Philipp Lahm I''ll present him with a bottle of champagne," the 57-year-old revealed after the final whistle. The right-back commented with a grin: "I expect the champagne to be in my locker next weekend."

"A long way to go"

Lahm has scored 14 goals in 360 Bundesliga appearances. He netted three times against Bremen, more than against any other Bundesliga team. He scored three of his last four league goals against the men from the north. However, the 32-year-old did not only shine as scorer on Friday. He set up five shots at goal, more than any other player. His success rate in one-on-one situations? 100 percent!

"We shouldn't get haughty now," the FCB skipper warned after the gala: it was only the first of 34 matches. "It's still a long way to go.  But it's going to be a nice weekend!"
