David versus Goliath

Postby FCBayernNews » Fri May 05, 2017 11:35 am

It’ll be David versus Goliath on Saturday when FC Bayern welcome Darmstadt 98 to the Allianz Arena. FCB have collected more than 3,500 points in their Bundesliga history, compared to Darmstadt’s 116. This season the record champions have recorded three times as many points (73-24), goals (79-26) and wins (22-7) as the Hessen side, who have also conceded three times as many goals (58-17). fcbayern.com presents some more facts and stats on the Matchday 32 fixture.

Unbeaten against Darmstadt

The ten previous competitive meetings between Bayern and Darmstadt have produced nine wins for the Reds and one draw. The Lilies claimed their only point against Bayern almost 39 years ago with a 1-1 draw at the Olympic Stadium in the first Bundesliga meeting between the two sides. FCB have won the last seven since then.

No sympathy for basement boys

Teams at the bottom of the Bundesliga haven’t had much joy against Bayern in recent years. The record champions have won 13 of their last 16 games against bottom sides and have only lost one at home in the last 30 seasons: a 1-0 defeat to Hannover in November 2006. Current Darmstadt player Jan Rosenthal was in the visitors’ team that day.

On a run

Other than Werder Bremen, the Lilies are the only team to have got maximum points from their last three Bundesliga games! Three consecutive victories is also a record for the club in the top flight.

Lewandowski more prolific than Darmstadt

Bayern hitman Robert Lewandowski has alone scored more Bundesliga goals than the whole Darmstadt squad. The striker has netted 28 times this season, while the Lilies have only managed 26 goals. Overall Lewandowski has also scored more goals (149) in the Bundesliga than Darmstadt have in their whole history (138).

Winkmann’s first FCB game of the season

Guido Winkmann, a 43 year-old police officer from Kerken, is the referee for Bayern’s penultimate home game of the season. It’s his first match involving the record champions this season. Winkmann will be assisted by Christian Bandurski and Arno Blos, with Patrick Alt as fourth official.
