Coman but no Lewandowski in Glasgow

Postby FCBayernNews » Mon Oct 30, 2017 10:25 am

There was no Robert Lewandowski but Kingsley Coman was on board as FC Bayern began their journey to Glasgow for Matchday 4 of the Champions League. Whether the Frenchman, who sat out Saturday’s Bundesliga game against RB Leipzig with a knee injury, can play against Celtic will be decided by coach Jupp Heynckes once they arrive in Scotland. Coman only partially trained with the squad on Sunday.

Lewandowski is staying in Munich as a precaution, with Heynckes unwilling to take a risk with the Pole. Lewandowski was substituted shortly before half-time on Saturday evening with a slight muscular problem in his thigh. “It was like cramp,” said the striker afterwards.

In total 19 players boarded the bus to the airport shortly after nine o’clock this morning, including U19 striker Manuel Wintzheimer who has been drafted in due to Lewandowski’s absence. The youth product made a few appearances for the first team during pre-season and has scored 15 goals in 11 games for the U19 side this season as well as four goals in four appearances for the reserves. Fellow striker Kwasi Okyere Wriedt, who came on during the cup game at Leipzig, is not registered for the Champions League.

Juan Bernat, who continues to take part in the majority of team training following his ankle ligament tear in the summer, has stayed in Munich along with injured trio Manuel Neuer, Thomas Müller and Franck Ribéry.

The squad for Celtic:

Ulreich, Starke, Süle, Hummels, Thiago, Martínez, Robben, James, Rafinha, Boateng, Rudy, Vidal, Tolisso, Alaba, Coman, Kimmich, Friedl, Früchtl, Wintzheimer.
