Slowly but surely preparations for next season are beginning. They take another step forward this Sunday when the draw for the first round proper of the DFB Cup takes place (18:00 CEST). Bayern fans will find out which team the record German cup winners will begin the competition against during ARD’s Sportschau. The lowest-ranked side in the 2017/2018 DFB Cup are Sportfreunde Dorfmerkingen from the seventh tier. 1. FC Rielasingen-Arlen are representing the sixth division while there are six clubs from the fifth tier and eleven from the Regionalliga. Ten teams from the third tier will be playing for a place in the next round, along with all sides from the top two leagues. The DFB Cup begins on the weekend of 11-14 August 2017.

Thiago a spectator during Spain draw

Bayern midfielder Thiago could only watch on as Spain drew 2-2 in a friendly against Colombia on Wednesday evening. Manchester City’s David Silva and Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata scored the goals for the 2010 World Cup winners either side of goals from Edwin Cardona and Falcao for the hosts. Thiago was an unused substitute while his former teammate Pepe Reina was in goal for the Spaniards. Thiago and co travel to Macedonia for a World Cup qualifier this Sunday (20:45 CEST).
