Hamburg and FC Bayern have met in the Bundesliga every year since 1965, and they will do so for the 105th time on Saturday evening. The ‘Nordderby’ between Hamburg and Werder Bremen is the only fixture that’s occurred more often (107 times). Bayern are clearly ahead in the head-to-head record, with 63 wins, 22 draws and only 19 defeats. The record German champions have also scored 240 goals against HSV – the highest amount scored by one Bundesliga side against another. fcbayern.com has picked out some other key stats and facts on this north-south battle.

17 games unbeaten

Bayern haven’t lost any of their last 17 competitive matches against HSV (14 wins, three draws). Their last defeat came back in September 2009 – since then, the Reds have put 64 goals past Hamburg while only conceding seven, keeping 11 clean sheets and scoring an average of more than three goals per game.

HSV waiting for milestone win

HSV have registered a total of 499 Bundesliga home wins, so the next one will be a special one. Only FCB and Werder Bremen can boast over 500 victories at home in Germany’s top flight. However the northerners have been waiting for this milestone since Matchday 1 and haven’t even scored in their last three matches at the Volksparkstadion. Hamburg have collected just one point from their last six games overall, scoring only two goals.

Lewandowski on fire

In contrast, Robert Lewandowski is having no trouble finding the back of the net. The Pole has scored in each of the last five Bundesliga games, netting six goals in total. He’s never gone on a longer goalscoring streak for FCB in the league, so it’s good that he now faces one of his favourite opponents. The 29 year-old has scored 12 goals against Hamburg and provided five assists. Augsburg are the only side he’s had more joy against (16 goals, five assists).

HSV expert Robben

Arjen Robben also enjoys playing against the Bundesliga’s ‘Dinosaur’. The Dutchman has been involved in more goals against Hamburg than against any other club, scoring nine and setting up five.

Fritz in charge

Marco Fritz will referee his second Bayern match of the season already. The 40 year-old bank clerk from Korb officiated the 3-0 win at Schalke on Matchday 5. It will be his 21st game involving FCB – the most games he’s refereed of any team. Dominik Schaal and Marcel Pelgrim will be assisting him in Hamburg, with Robert Schröder as the fourth official and Manuel Gräfe the video assistant.
