Ancelotti: We still have 90 minutes

Postby FCBayernNews » Thu Apr 13, 2017 12:25 am

The mouth-watering Champions League quarter-final first leg against Real Madrid lived up to its pre-match billing but ended in a disappointing 2-1 defeat for FC Bayern. "The small details were decisive today," summarised Carlo Ancelotti after the match. However, the Bavarians have not given up hope: "We're confident enough. We have the quality and passion to win in Madrid," Thomas Müller declared, whereas Ancelotti added: "We're still alive."

Reaction to Bayern v Real Madrid

Carlo Ancelotti: "The small details were decisive today. We missed the penalty, we conceded the equaliser early in the second half. The sending-off changed the match completely. We controlled it in the first half but didn't make the most of our chances. Going a man down didn't make it easier to say the least, but we still did quite a good job. We now have six days until the second leg. We still have 90 minutes, and we'll give it everything. We're still alive as they say in Italy."

Philipp Lahm: "We were in control in the first half but didn't make best use of the space we had. The tide turned when we conceded the equaliser, and we were knocked out of our stride after the yellow-red card."

Thomas Müller: "There were many different periods in the match. We had good chances to make it two, especially from the spot. At that point Real hadn't had a presentable chance. We were careless once in the second half, our opponents beat us to the ball, and the cross lead to the goal. Then there was the red card and the tide turned. Ultimately we're glad the scoreline was only 2-1. We still have every chance in Madrid, we're confident enough. We have the quality and passion to win in Madrid."

Manuel Neuer: "It's important to leave the pitch with 11 players. We didn't control possession any more, we lacked confidence. The scoreline could have been even higher. We're confident we can make it. We were the better team in the first half, had we been more confident we could have made it two or three."

Zinedine Zidane (Real Madrid coach): "We're all very pleased, it's not easy to achieve this result here. Bayern were very strong in the first half, they played well. We suffered a lot then. We were patient and kept our cool. We improved over the course of the second half and scored the equaliser. We won the first leg, but nothing's decided. There's a return game left, and it's anything but over."
