Alaba: We want to keep following this path

Postby FCBayernNews » Sat Oct 28, 2017 9:45 pm

Bayern downed RB Leipzig 2-0 on Saturday evening, moving to the top of the table for the first time this season. "We've taken a big step forward," a pleased Jérôme Boateng said after the second victory over Leipzig in three days. Leipzig went a man down early in the contest and failed to turn the tide against the "clever" champions.

Reaction to Bayern v Leipzig

Jupp Heynckes: "After Wednesday's cup fight we were once again very committed and motivated. Our preparation was ideal. If you're reduced to ten men after 14 minutes, as Leipzig were today, it's a disadvantage. But my team controlled the match and were clever. We could have scored one more goal, but it was more important to be disciplined in defence and take no risks. I really liked it."

Jérôme Boateng: "We started very well. Leipzig went a man down early on, which was unfortunate for our opponents. We did a good job in the first half and scored two goals, the match was closed out then. We should have made use of our extra man in the second half. We're aware not everything's going perfectly yet, but we've taken a big step forward."

David Alaba: "The result is okay. We benefited from the red card. If we go one up it's very difficult to beat us at home. In the second half we wanted to pick up where we left off. We failed at that but kept a clean sheet, which was our goal. We want to retain our lead and keep following this path."

Ralph Hasenhüttl (RB Leipzig coach): "We've seen too many red cards this year. We could have gone home at half-time. We focused on containing our opponents then and rested the lads we need on Wednesday. If you see two red cards against Bayern within a few days it gets hard from a mental point of view."

Diego Demme (RB Leipzig): "We had ambitious plans. After the red card and the early opener the game was almost closed out. We hoped to level the scores on the break, but Bayern played well and doubled the lead. The match was over then."
