A round dozen

Postby FCBayernNews » Wed Nov 22, 2017 10:35 am

FC Bayern Munich and RSC Anderlecht face off competitively for the 12th time this evening. The German champions currently lead the head-to-head with six wins to three defeats (3 draws) and a comfortable goal difference (23-13). fcbayern.com takes a look at the interesting facts and figures ahead of the UEFA Champions League clash.

Bayern unbeaten in UCL meetings

Three of the previous 11 encounters have come in the Champions League. As well as Bayern’s 3-0 win in the opening game of this season’s tournament, the German and Belgian champions also faced off in the 2003/04 group stage. A 1-1 draw in Brussels (Martin Demichelis is pictured above contesting with Walter Baseggio) was followed by a narrow 1-0 victory at the Olympiastadion back in Munich.

Heynckes on course for record

The 2-1 win over Celtic in Glasgow was the seventh Champions League victory in a row for Jupp Heynckes. It’s a feat that has never previously been achieved by a German coach or an FCB boss. Heynckes’ last defeat in the competition came back in March 2013 against Arsenal (2-0). With a win rate of 69 per cent, Heynckes is currently seventh in the all-time UCL standings behind Luis Enrique (73%).

Just one defeat in Belgium

Despite the most recent 2-1 win in Glasgow, the German record champions do not boast a positive record in their last ten away Champions League games. Three victories have come alongside two draws and five defeats, with FCB failing to keep a single clean sheet. However, Bayern enjoy traveling to Belgium with just one defeat along with two wins and three draws in six visits to Germany’s north-western neighbours.

Anderlecht still without a goal

The Belgian record champions have struggled in the Champions League of late. They currently have the worst record of this year’s tournament with zero points, zero goals scored and 15 conceded. They remain the only one of the 32 participants without a goal. Anderlecht have just one victory in their last 18 UCL games, drawing five and losing the other 12.

One home win in nine

The hosts’ record does not get much better at home either. The Belgians have lost eight of their last nine (by 26-6) in Europe’s premier club competition at the Constant Vanden Stock Stadium, and their last five in a row in European club competition (Champions League and Europa League). Further defeat to Bayern tonight would equal a negative club record of six consecutive defeats set between 1955 and 1959 as well as the 2004/05 group stage.

Incorrect.

Including Real Madrid matches, Heynckes won 43 out of 61 matches (70.49%). If he wins tonight, he will be 44/62 (70.97%)

I'm interesting to see who the other six supposedly are, considering that UEFA's article put Heynckes first as of February 2016*.

* this included only coaches with a minimum of 40 matches coached.
