The Malta Information Technology Law Association has raised concern over the proposed Media Bill for including a new obligation for websites to be registered in a media register.

Under the current Press Act, editors and publishers of newspapers must register their personal details and newspaper titles with the Registrar at the Department of Information.

The new law also makes it mandatory to register editors of newspapers, broadcasters and websites, and publishers of newspapers, under pain of a €1,000 fine.

In the proposed media law however, the protection of sources shall only apply in respect of editors and publishers of newspapers, broadcasting services and websites that are registered with the Media Register, and only for authors who “habitually” exercise the profession of journalist on a full-time and part-time basis.

The MITLA is claiming the registration scheme is similar to a number of repressive laws introduced in states like China, Bangladesh and, most notably, Russia through its infamous ‘Bloggers’ Law’, by virtue of which certain websites require registration with the State. [source]

Good thing that we can still read, that's a positive... cause we thought that we'd be all nuked by now. :P

Nah that's too hyperbolic... But an unbiased, sober analysis of what's happening must give you the impression that it is kind of like bad reality TV and - at least so far - pretty much embarrassing...

We on the other hand are waiting for you to tell us if (you think) this is even legit "news"...

For all I know these might just be hired actors...

And if it were legit, how you - once again - feel entitled to be able to judge the whole situation and assess the other 99,99999999999999999999999999999999999 percent of refugees on one incident, while we employ thousands of people to do just that...
Thanks for nothing, :pep: !!

99 % are true refugees ....
OK...
So let us have a quick look to the confilcts being currently fought in Africa...
....
...
...
There are no conflicts at all... so those are not refugees... they are not escaping persecution or war...

Yes that is news... cause it shows the spineless Continent we live in.

You employ ppl to verify if they are R or not! What a joke ... how can you if they don't even carry documents.
And you know why they do that? So we won't be able to send them back...!-

Who said that? There are definitely some who aren't real refugees... My problem is you always generalizing, cause it makes life so much easier huh? ;)
You also still haven't answered the question...
If you say there are no conflicts, you are just wrong... There are fierce military dictatorships where people are subject to political (or religious) prosecution...
Not everyone from there is fake
And you cannot only flee from war...
Also, YOU employ those people too, and there are other ways to find out, don't act like they're all idiots with no clue about their job

I'll say it again: I doubt too many are willing to risk drowning in the Mediterranean for a few bucks in social welfare in a cold, strange environment with people they don't know and whose language they do not speak, all the while living in sports gyms together with 399 others watching your every step when you have to take a leak or go some decent number 2
Thanks for nothing, :pep: !!
