Historians tend to be advocates of the book
Usually, he also publishes in English IIRC, it's a biography focusing in the correlation between his self-conception as an artist and military and political genius... Good read...

Academia is moving into the electronic realm more and more. ;) I'll definitely look into it if it is (or becomes) available in English.

in the docs thread today I wrote something about the tactical genius hitler was... he was the culprit of the German loss...
I finished watching that doc about the art of war...
IMO not only that but even in accepting italy as an ally was a big mistake... Italians were very weak and in the tasks they were given they were failing miserably and Germans had to go to save their asses allover ...

For instance here in Malta the italians were the first to come ... Our old folk jokingly used to say that during italian air raids they used to stay home watching the planes (which used to stay very high in the sky which made them almost invisible) because their aim was very very terrible...
Seeing this later during the war from 41-42 the germans took over and unfortunately they left many casualties, dead and devastation...
According to the same folks Luftwaffe used to fly so low that the pilots face was recognizable...
Some died because naively they thought that they were like the italians but soon the population learned the bulk in difference and started to be more alert.

One has to say that here there were many italian sympathizers and the italians knew this and legend say it that they did not want to kill innocent Maltese whom they considered as cousins. Hence the wrong aims and flying too high... Apparently Mussolini himself gave the orders to avoid civilian killings....

Had the Luftwaffe been the first to attack Malta rather than Italy, they'd probably have taken it very quickly. Our defences were miserable but when Italy kept attacking the British bolstered the Islands' defence. Even with those extra units, Malta was close to surrendering in 1942.

At the risk of sounding too big-headed, the whole war might have gone otherwise had Britain lost Malta. Churchill must have known that, that's why they were so determined to keep it. In fact, I've read in the past that the sacrifices in numbers made by both the British and the Maltese were insane relative to the size and population of the country.

However, as you said in the other thread, the biggest mistakes of the war (in terms of winners and losers) were Pearl Harbour and the German invasion of the USSR.

German authorities are carrying out raids across the country after the government banned a right-wing extremist group called Weisse Woelfe Terrorcrew.
The German interior ministry said in a statement on Wednesday that raids and seizures of evidence targeting leaders of the group were taking place in 10 states.
The interior ministry could not immediately be reached for more details.
In January, German prosecutors charged three men and one woman with forming another far-right group and planning to bomb a refugee shelter.
That group, which went by the name Oldschool Society, discussed how to manufacture explosives and the possibility of attacking Islamic extremists and asylum-seekers in Germany. [source]

Maybe they should feel targeted as Britons and leave it at that. They get upset about racial prejudice, then they feel upset that they aren't being racially targeted. What a crazy world we live in :)
