We have to fend off extremism on both sides. It's sad that America gets a bad rap because tbh most Americans are good honest people. A lot of the hate is media-fueled, but some of it is real (just less than the media wants you to believe) As a Californian, it's extremely frustrating having moved to the South to encounter people who are honestly very nice and become my friends, who insist they aren't racist, but as soon as you get enough of them together the Confederate flags start and demeaning jokes start coming out. There are parts of the South I have come to love but honestly can't wait to get out.

But at the end of the day the worst evil is letting the government control people's destiny. I watched a VICE documentary on Islamic State and honestly if you look at them they have some good intentions, but they are f*cking evil because they use absolute power over everyone in their dominion to perpetrate the same evils they claim they are fighting against. Watching the honest people in Greece slowly become the minority to Socialists has been sad. European socialism is not the model to follow. We aren't perfect, but for 200 years giving individuals more and more control of their own fate worked. Give individuals power to drive progress, eventually racists, the lazy, and other ignorant people will be obsolete and have to get with the times.

The thing is that all those moralists and NGO call people racist because they just run into conclusions. For example if someone is worried about the fact that we are getting too many illegal immigrants from Africa and from other areas who are by no means refugees but only economic migrants they are call racists... If one is worried that his culture / values / way of life / are being threatened he / she is called racist... That is not racist but being rationalists and not living on the clouds...

CNN video on migrant camp in Calais [source]

I can't believe the woman aid worker that shows up saying conditions are unacceptable and humanitarian standards not respected. Calais is just supposed to welcome the whole world, feed and clothe them? At least illegal immigrants to America work for a living. This is where the Catholic Pope is totally wrong. There are limited resources and honestly if we don't find a way to get off Earth overpopulation will be the biggest threat to the climate.

i'm happy to see it go. i'm from the North, which of course won the Civil War... but that's 150 years ago! Some people in the South still insist on talking about it :? anyways, the confederate (southern) flag has been used by white supremacists for a long time, so i'm happy that South Carolina is getting rid of it

As you said it's just history. The only question is: what does it change? White supremacist will disappear? There was racial segregation under different flag until sixties, so should that one be removed or redesigned too? I think Nigeria and Niger should change their names also, wonder why they don't think about it yet.

It's removing a symbol of hate. Nothing will change, other than the state of South Carolina saying "we realize that this is flag is used for hateful purposes and we no longer support that".

I agree with a lot of what your saying but at the same time there are a lot of problems with the illegal immigrants, over 60% of the prison population in American is from Mexico, and many of them are illegal. I fully support people fleeing their country trying to find prosperity and hope, but they need to do it legally. Not to mention that billions of dollars worth of drugs come across the Mexican boarder annually, so something needs to be done

It's not a symbol of hate, it's flag of Confederate States of America and has nothing to do with hate. Ask Chinese or Spanish guys if they consider it "symbol of hate". Next will be removing word "hate" from vocabulary because it means hate.

It's actually 16%. Here's a source: http://www.bop.gov/about/statistics/sta ... enship.jsp Latinos make up 17% of the US population, so they are not over-represented in the prison system.

It is the symbol of the states that seceded from the United States in order to preserve slavery. I get that some people see it as a symbol of their Southern heritage, but other people view it as a symbol of racism.

What I meant is that outside of white people, mexico has between 60 and 70% of the population the next country is Columbia with 4%

Btw you look at citizenship not ethnicity, over 1/3 of the population in prisons is Hispanic.....and is this federal or all prisons?

It makes sense, as Mexico has a much higher level of immigration to the US than Colombia.

You brought up Mexicans to begin with... why would I look at ethnicity? Are you implying that US citizens of Hispanic descent are also a problem?

Well it stems from the poor boarder problem. It's very clear that a lot of crime is coming from the boarder.

Don't know about Spanish guys, but many Americans of Chinese descent consider it a racist symbol. Then again in LA at least the black community and the hispanic community has some uneasy relations. To me it's enough that it's the symbol of a group of states that seceded on the basis of their racist treatment of blacks. I know plenty of Southerners wave the flag as a symbol of pride in the South, and plenty KKK tried to coopt the American flag. But the Confederate flag has no place in the US. Nazi flag is not just the flag of Nazi Germany and nothing to do with hate

People who wave this flag are outdated, and they wave it because they fear the world is passing them by :coffee:

We have to be careful if we allow this disgusting flag to let us think racism is confined to the South. In fact many states (including California) have the same level of issues.

The same thing happens with the word "love". Nowdays, all sort of perversions, stupid things, acts, etc. etc. can be named with a word love. Still, that has a link with everything except the love and the real meaning of the same.

I'm really "blessed", no wonder why I avoid using internet, TV and all sort of modern drugs, lately. :)
