Yeah, the second sentence of the tweet says 1.2 million died in 5 months. I'm not that knowledgeable about WW1 so I'm not sure why there's a celebration considering those deaths. Did it turn the war around?

Does it say "celebration"?
I gotta admit I din't know then... I know that it was supposed to be a major offense by the Entente (France and England) and I think they introduced tanks and airborne warfare... They won a few skirmishes and gained some ground but I don't think it was very significant... Maybe cause it's the first time they could strikr back?! But I can see no reason to celebrate... It was neither crucial not decisive...
WWI was lost by the Germans the moment it started...
Thanks for nothing, :pep: !!

"Les célébrations du centenaire" is "the celebrations/festivities of the centenary..." Not sure whether it can stand for "commemoration" in French but the pictures does suggest something more akin to a celebration.

I think it can also mean commemorate (in English too, can't it?!) - and as for the pictures: when it comes to the military, the French are rather similar to the Americans... Let's just say they have an affinity for it...
So maybe that's it?!
