Sette Giugno (from Italian for "Seventh of June") is a Maltese national holiday celebrated annually on 7 June. It commemorates events which occurred on that day in 1919 when, following a series of riots by the Maltese population, British troops fired into the crowd, killing four. This led to increased resistance and support for the pro-Italian parties that had challenged the British presence on the island [source]

I find it weird how we have a national holiday commemorating 4 guys who were killed 97 years ago in a manner one may argue wasn't completely undeserved given the circumstances, and then we don't have a specific holiday to commemorate the thousands of Maltese who lost their lives in WWII.

In fact I disagree with today's holiday. I'm fine with the other 4, but this one is a bit too much.

Guys I suggest you go in depth of what were the ciscumstances and what this blood of these men lead to.
PLS note that the death at least three were not protesting. The Gozitan was on his way to catch a ship for the states and another was looking for his sons.

It lead for our first constitution for self Government in 1921 (two yrs after the riots)
And it was the first step towards independence (1964)
It also showed the Brits that we were not just sheep and their slaves anymore we had a voice.
@Mutu 8.Sept Victory Day combines two victories ; 1565 siege and the end of ww2 thanks to the italian's surrender.

Another point on ww2... We were not fighting our war we were used... On the other hand on this occasion we stood up against the foreign occupiers...
The same as 5.9.1798 when we drove the french into hiding. Nobody seem to celebrate this date either.

He resisted arrest under difficult circumstances for soldiers trying to control an angry riot destroying everything in its path. Soldiers were in most cases outnumbered 1,000 to 1. As for the bigger number of deaths they occurred when panicked soldiers reacted to being fired at from a window of a house the protesters were destroying.

All this by protesters trying to get us get along with the axis rather than the allies. They wanted us to live under Mussolini.

Sshh Mutu. That would be one less holiday when it comes on a weekday. Actually it is about time we had a 21st century holiday. How about a Euro day? :D

The thing is that it's already ridiculous that we have 5 National holidays (I think we're the only country in the world), as much as we enjoy them. These events are not significant enough to merit a holiday, in my opinion. They are nothing compared to Independence or Republic Day. I would argue that Victory Day too is not important enough, but as you said it related to two important events, not one, which I think makes it good enough.

The 7th June events also led to increased hostility by the British towards Italians/Italian supporters. During/just before WW2 the British exiled a number of Italians/Maltese who sympathised with Italy (including the founder of the Nationalist Party - or his son, I'm not sure) to Uganda for allegedly being Mussolini supporters, although to my knowledge there was never enough evidence. One of them was my great grandfather, the son of an Italian gentleman who moved to Malta way before the first world war, let alone the second. ;)
