PLS note that the death at least three were not protesting. The Gozitan was on his way to catch a ship for the states and another was looking for his sons.

The thing is that it's already ridiculous that we have 5 National holidays (I think we're the only country in the world), as much as we enjoy them. These events are not significant enough to merit a holiday, in my opinion. They are nothing compared to Independence or Republic Day. I would argue that Victory Day too is not important enough, but as you said it related to two important events, not one, which I think makes it good enough.
The 7th June events also led to increased hostility by the British towards Italians/Italian supporters. During/just before WW2 the British exiled a number of Italians/Maltese who sympathised with Italy (including the founder of the Nationalist Party - or his son, I'm not sure) to Uganda for allegedly being Mussolini supporters, although to my knowledge there was never enough evidence. One of them was my great grandfather, the son of an Italian gentleman who moved to Malta way before the first world war, let alone the second.
