As you know I'm a huge enthusiast of the local waterpolo scene and it's really great to see such success, but we desperately need to restructure the entire sport in Malta and begin offering players a more professional league.

The 3 big clubs (Sliema, Neptunes, and San Giljan) are capable of attracting world-class players every year (2-3 years ago Sliema had a player who is widely considered to be the best left-handed player of all time), but our league lasts only a couple of months in summer. We have a winter league which is currently ongoing but it's the equivalent of the Audi Cup in Bayern's preseason or something like that, and it's only about 6 games long. In fact, attendance is usually horrible in the winter league.

We have good local players at all ages and our clubs can attract great foreigners, but as long as the sport isn't given the recognition it deserves all year round, we won't see success on the biggest stages.

The best example is probably Steve Camilleri. He plays for a local team every summer but spends the rest of the year playing for an Italian club (one of the best leagues). At the moment he is one of the top scorers in that league and has scored more goals than any Italian player. He also finished as top scorer of the European Championships a couple of months ago. Just imagine if someone of his calibre could play for a Maltese team all-year round and if more Maltese players had the same opportunities he had.
We will rise again! (when we stop burying our heads in the sand)

as far as I know the Govt promised to help...
JCC is the right man to push for what needs to be done...
We Maltese should put waterpolo and Rugby as our prime sports

Exactly! Those are the only sports in which we can compete internationally.

I'm not sure what support the Government is/is planning to give, but usually when it comes to sports the best schemes are always for footballers just because that's the sport we all watch, but it simply doesn't make sense.

Hundreds of skiers wearing bikinis and colorful costumes try to break a Guinness World Record in Sochi, Russia.
Spring-like temperatures helped motivate participants in scantily clad outfits.
Local media say about 1,000 people participated.
The current record is held by a 2013 ski parade in Sheregesh Russia with 500 participants. [source]

My local waterpolo team just beat the league leaders by just one goal in the last match of the winter league to draw level on points with them and force a decider. \:D/

Our waterpolo scene is somewhat like La Liga. My team is the equivalent of Real Madrid (the most successful but currently barely winning anything) and our opponents are like Altetico (they were never any match for the big two but have established themselves as the third superpower in these past 2 years). The team equivalent to Barcelona (and our biggest rival) has won almost every trophy in these last 5-6 years but are terrible this season, we've beaten them convincingly in every game. That means that this year is our biggest chance to taste glory again. I'm confident that if we win this decider we can go on to win a domestic treble (winter league+summer league+knockout cup). We haven't won the main trophy (the summer league) in a very long time now.

Do you think Valletta can be a contender?

They improved last year. Not sure on their strength this year but looking at the table they're doing well. I don't think it's good enough to compete for the title, but they might decide it if some of the top teams drop more points against them.
