the food and drink thread

Postby ramsej84 » Mon Feb 29, 2016 3:04 pm

I don't think that such a thread exists... I think it would be interesting and popular ; mainly because being a multicultural forum we will enjoy each others choices of food and what we mainly eat / drink and what we like to eat...

this was my lunch : Typically Maltese:
Maltese Ftira biz zejt - ingredients Dense, crusty ftira bread or sliced Maltese bread
Good quality tomato paste (known in Maltese as kunserva)
Capers
Chopped Onions and garlic
tinned tuna in oil, drained
Sea salt and pepper
Flat leaf parsley, leaves picked
Extra virgin olive oil
twistees : a snack to accompany it
and an ice cold Cisk lager beer 8)

I don't usually eat this light for my lunch break...

OK I have to ask, why do you always use capital letters in posts but never in thread titles? :P

This stuff is made for each other, alcohol isn't that preferable with this dish.

You make me jealous about your food. Mine seems so much more boring.

Well I didn't eat this today, but I guess it is the most interesting Venezuelan dish. Shredded chicken mixed with mayonnaise and avocado on a sort of corn bread called arepa. It's called Reina Pepiada.

Looks similar to Mexican food (and looks delicious).

Not that similar. Mexican food is heavy on hot spices, Venezuelan barely uses them. Also, arepas are thicker than tortillas (more like bread).

If it happens that someday you come by this way, we can go and try it. :)
It's actually easy to make even at home... that's the best part cause most are homemade ingredients.

how so? Seems like a perfect groundwork?!

Is this also a thread to share and request recipes? Or is there already one? I think that'd actually be awesome...
Thanks for nothing, :pep: !!

Yeah, it's kind of a heart attack cause you can never tell when you had enough... next thing you know, you can't move.

Someone who likes to accompany it with a glass of white wine or a little glass of some homemade Raki, no problem with that, but yogurt suits it perfectly and I wouldn't want to mix yogurt with alcohol. That's one reason... Yogurt over alcohol with it, any day. I usually prefer alcohol with meats... there's no meat so...

This should be the thread about recipes also... great idea.

This evening after jogging I ruined everything with a ''tarja moqlija'' - frittata
Not the most healthy food either...

Great timing for this thread because I just cooked this yesterday. Always a dream of mine to own a restaurant, even though I missed the boat to culinary school because most of the time Asians are expected to walk the conventional education path. Once I hopefully earn enough money for my own place I'd like to serve Asian-European fusion food such as these.

Coconut rice coloured yellow with turmeric. By the side is a condiment of chili paste made of peanuts, dried slated fish and chili (known as "sambal"). On top is a curried lamb steak topped with shallots which I crispy fried. The green is the French element of pea purée as a cooling agent in a very spicy dish.

Apart from the green, everything else is very much a big part of Indonesian cuisine.
