Southeast Asian sirloin salad with glass noodles and a sweet dressing of fish sauce, coriander, mint, chili and lime.

Do remind me to post the detailed recipe if you like :)

I don't know what Haxn is but that looks really good.

Also, lasagne is one of my favourite dishes so thanks for making me hungry. :P

the food and drink thread

Postby #12 » Fri Jan 27, 2017 6:57 pm

Why? I mean I do it a little differently than standard procedure, but still...

Haxn is traditionally Bavarian, kinda like pork knuckles... You serve it with a potato dumpling and red cabbage ideally...
What I like best about it is the awesome crust, that is so crunchy, it might hurt your teeth and also soaks up all the spices you baste on it periodically... (plus: beer!)
The meat is also very tasty, but you will need a toothpick!
Seriously, if you've never tasted it, you should when you're here next time!

Lasagna varies from person to another.
I mainly eat it from three different sources and all are different...

Well I usually am no one to praise myself, but it was pretty darn tasty... And you can probably see by the sheer size of this that it wasn't just for me (I don't eat THAT much) - and they liked it as well...

It doesn't look that different from what I'm used to but I see what ramsej means as I have had very different ones.

Also, will definitely follow your advice and try that, although I have no idea when next time in Bavaria might be.

I mean, I know you're not Italian and all, so don't shoot me, but: you ARE kinda close geographically (and maybe even with regards to cuisine?) so yours might be more like "the real thing"

That makes sense although I guess it depends on which part of Italy it originates from. "The real thing" might be closer to Bavaria :P

I've only been to Italy once and that was ages ago (not counting Sicily) but I assume we're similar to the Southern Italians. Considering the Northern Italians act in a "racist" manner even towards the Southern Italians, I wouldn't be surprised if they don't consider our lasagne to be anything like an Italian one

They consider us as North Africans...
Our cuisine is mainly a Mediterranean one Sicilian and Arabic... but unfortunately some 264 years of British Rule ruined that from us...
They introduced pastry and fu##ed us up...

I think British cuisine has a worse reputation than it deserves

Debatable

It's not all bad

I think it's the "American" one... I mean, seriously, I loves me some Burgers... And who doesn't like Ribs?!

I never get the hype around French cooking, I like their baking though (baguette and croissant)... Asian and especially Thai is very original in being repetitive in my book, if you know what I mean - I love the way they combine all different kinds of spices and herbs... But Italian IS something else, you gotta give it to them... Pizza, so many countless delicious kinds of pasta, stews, soups, entrees, desserts... Awesome...

On another notice: when I posted earlier I thought of something I (maybe just me) think would/will/might be fun: how about you guys pick a - preferably German - dish you know, you've tasted once, you've heard of or whatever and I will try and custom cook it some time and then post pictures and my own recipe here?!
And of course it'd be cool if others joined in and would do the same...
