Yeah, you can either buy it off the black market (bottles that've aged over ten years can go for over a thousand euros) or hope for the best at the Abbey (not a sure thing either, you have to go through an annoying process to get your max two crates. At least it's cheap - the monks don't give a crap about the profits).

Do you live in Belgium?

My best friend lived there for a year as an exchange student after highschool. He got a couple of crates in the Abbey and proudly exhibited a picture with them in FB hahaha. He was the one who introduced me to the world of craft beer. I hope to try the Westvleteren one day :) (no clue how to pronounce that BTW).

In fact, my first "good" beer was a Hooegarden he brought from a trip. Of course, now I realize that is a pretty normal beer. Best Belgium beer o had was probably a Pannepot he gave me. Weird beer, tastes like a cross between coffee stout and a very woody wine hahaha.

No, the flag in my profile denotes my residency. :P

However, I do know a dude who imports Belgian beer and has made the trip himself. If you want something similar, that is, a very strong Belgian trappist, St. Bernandus is widely available and just as good (Abt 12).

Is that the Maiden Trooper beer? Tis a nice pint that.

I like a nice Thatchers Gold, Guinness and Bombardier. Though not all together, one after the other :D

Yeah, not amazing though. I love Maiden and Bruce is a god, nothing less, but the Trooper beer is a fine beer, not outstanding, lacks a good strong aftertaste. I guess it's not shocking though, it is a fairly simple mass product.
