If the result comes out late in the day the noise will probably carry over wherever you go. :P

We live in one of the worst areas if PN win. If Labour wins maybe not so much.

Maltese. We have no relation to Italy other than being geographical neighbours, although the vast majority of the island speaks Italian fluently (this is being lost among younger generations). In the early 20th century when Malta was under Brirish rule there was a part of the population, some of them Italian immigrants (like my great grandfather) who were pro-Italian. Some of them founded what is still today one of the main two parties in Malta (the blue one in that picture). They wanted Italian to be our language but the English side won. Today Maltese and English are our two official languages, Italian is just a spoken one with no official status.

Similar to the language question, there are still two factions today as far as football is concerned. About 49% of the population support Italian teams, and another 49% support British teams. This forum might paint a very inaccurate picture. There may be many of us here, but we are a huge minority among football fans in Malta. People are always fascinated when they learn that we support Bayern or Germany. Thay said, German NT fans (almost each one of them a Bayern fan) are definitely the most numerous among all the minorities (Real and Barca included... But this is probably changing among children).

There are quite a number of Italians living in Malta nowadays but you can definitely tell the difference between them and the Maltese. In fact i think there's a bit of animosity towards them in general.

Thank you for your extensive answer, admitedly I pictured it a bit differently. Larger countries tend to be culturaly hegemonic, extending the definition of oneself to others - so it is easy to (wrongly or not) assume their influence over smaller neighbours. I consider basic geography as a common sense, so I needed to know the facts. :)

Joseph Calleia [source]
how many of you aware of this star?
I heard about him a couple of years ago.
He was born in Rabat - Malta
He was so good that he was offered the role of Don Vito Corleone in the Godfather. Unfortunately he had to refuse the role cause of his ill health (he lived his last years of his life in Sliema - his house was the first in Malta to be equipped with an elevator, an intercom and an AC) a role which was subsequently given to Marlon Brando to which he received an Oscar

He is familiar but I have no idea how. I may have come across him when studying film history, perhaps. Had no idea he's Maltese though.

Turnout by 2pm up by 2.9% over 2013 [source]

Edit: worth noting District 5 registered the biggest drop, over 3%. The PM (who asked his voters to vote first thing in the morning) is contesting there.

Not the only one... there was one on the news as well. I have no idea how they didn't postpone! There's a risk of arguments breaking out during the reception too.
