Interesting people from history

Quazzi, I googled the guy. Seemed to have had quite a life. I will read it more carefully tomorrow when I am not too tired. How did you come about finding out about the guy? Are you training for a Tour or avid watcher?

From a Cracked article! I usually follow Tour de France with one eye if a countryman is participating (so I followed it a lot when Jaan Kirsipuu won a couple of stages), and I was an amateur cyclist myself (in Kirsipuu's "academy", I even have one of the cycling shirts he used). But what draws me to that guy is the sheer wackiness of him, and the idea that once Tour de France was a Looney Tunes cartoon, where competitors tried to make their opponents fail and cheat themselves as much as possible. It's just so damn hilarious. :D

I think we oughta rename this thread to "Amazing People You Know" just to give it a sense of purpose in a football forum. So what I could not find was if Les Terrible really cheated in 1904's Tour, when disqualified...

Everyone cheated in those days, it's not even a question! Of course it's easier to cheat by making your opponents perform worse (for example poisoning their water) rather than give yourself an edge (take a ride on a car), because it isn't as suspicious.
