Also, situation in Europe is not that different... In fact, the US are historically deeply divided...

And who says you're in the minority?

Regarding the education thing: as great as education in Germany is the universities in the US and the UK are unparalleled when it comes to advanced degrees. Specialising in English, probably even more so. However linguistics has obvious advantages in Europe. Depends on how comparative she'd like to be.

@12 - i'm still working to improve my German every day. mostly through reading some online newspapers (TZ and AZ) and watching German TV. And of course, if you make it to the US this year, consider Atlanta ;)

@FCBayernMunchen - I agree, would prefer it to be a unified EU... would have a lot of clout and would presumably benefit the entire continent in some way

I imagine so... The number of Eurosceptics is in the millions these days and I'm sure not all pro-EU people want closer ties.

maybe for the next few years, but we will definitely move to Germany eventually. There are a lot of structural issues in the US that need to be fixed, with no political will to make them happen. I fear the US will be left behind...

I've lived both in USA and Germany, and for me, life overall was better in Germany. Both have positive aspects, but big picture it's Germany, easy...

The thing is that Europe is becoming less safe...
Otherwise Germany would be my choice without hesitation

Don't worry, I already live in a place where random violence is so normal it's barely even reported  in Atlanta alone, there were 111 murders just last year, 334 in my home city of New York... not to mention the scores of other violent crimes...

im traveling every day with subways, trains and buses...often late at night. i never witnessed any "unsafe" situation...except some drunk "partypeople" sunday morning getting into a little brawl.
@ nm462272: you can check it out in august...we can hang out all night in the city and nothing bad will happen...except the "bad" things we want to happen. party...

mach ma sicherlich 8) of all the places i've lived, the safest was by far Munich. We used to walk home at 3 or 4am, no problem... i can't imagine trying that in NYC or Atlanta
