Why is he listening to the translation if he speaks Italian?

I've noticed that happen a few times when I watch videos like this. I always wondered whether they would actually be hearing an interpreter anyway.

It's a normal procedure by the leaders. Despite some of them are fluent in 1-2 fgn languages and able to understand everything, the pride or the importance on insisting on the native language during the int meetings and summits prevails in the end.

Despite some people know 5 languages, yet aren't able to think and respond as fast as they do in their mother tongue. Schulz' French is awesome from what I've heard in a debate with Juncker. He lived there for some time and that helps enormely. English and Dutch are the same story as for a Portuguese speaking person who's speaking Spanish, Italian and French.

Hahaha, I haven't heard this for years. In 2-3 days I'm going to receive my new graphic card and 'baptise' it with one game where I used to hear stronco, bidone, buffone, bacione, cretino, figlio do putana, etc.

I agree with this. Our own PM infamously ranted about it once when he was an MEP.

Sometimes I've seen politicians put on the headset even when the speaker is using their native language though.

We Europeans should have replaced Latin with the Italian language and we would have avoided all the barriers for all this time.

Muscat did well since it was disrespectful.
