True but also the more languages you know, the easier it is to learn new ones, so being old has its advantages. ;)

Television helps a lot to learn a language during the early years of life, at least to understand it or even to speak it too.

Too bad I didn't stay couple of years longer in Germany as a kid, I would speak German all these years like my friends here who spent 5-6 years there.

That's easy for those who speak one of the Latin languages. The one whose native language is Spanish or speaks it fluently can easily learn Portuguese, Italian, French and Catalan. The same goes for Danish Swedish and Dutch people with learning English and German.

We here can learn Bulgarian/Macedonian and Slovakian/Czech. But let's be honest, who learns those languages if they don't live and work in those countries? :D My godfather learned German when he moved from Herzegovina without knowing a single word or greeting. Some 10 years ago he learned Bulgarian. He had worked there for 7 years.

For me, the money is a problem. :P I still think I'd improve significantly in both German and Spanish by attending a language school, i.e. an individual course or having someone who speaks them by side who'd teach me. Learning alone takes more time for an improvement in terms of speech. The grammar, the rules, the writing and reading is not an issue at all. In 4-6 months of intensive work you can achieve all of the mentioned things alone. But to sing the language like a bird, njet! :-" :)

Now you can feel less bad about that if you wanted to travel around Europe... I was thinking to go for the Euro in France with my cousin but now, I don't think so even if I had the money.

It's not just about traveling, it's about my desires for learning. Nowadays I can travel to Slovakia and talk with Burko on our languages  with an assistance of English, just as around the world.
It's more like I'm jealous because others learned German or Italian thanks to the environment(like you and some Dalmatians) or they were war refugees as little children and lived there for few years.
Everyone can speak English these days, but find people who can speak German or even better - Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, French in Eastern and Southeastern Europe that they aren't language teachers or professional translators... :P In period of my elementary school education I couldn't learn second language at school, now they are considering to put one more from the 5th grade(German very likely) with English from the 1st grade, but you can study German on a extracurricular classes.

I like how I sound when I talk in one of those Latin languages. 8)
