As a history note... The defeat in Malta was not the start of their decline but served the europeans in a positive way cause it showed that the Ottomans can also be defeated (cause up until then the ottomans have never tasted defeat in a maratime battle)
This lead the Christian league (a coalition between Christian states in which the Order of St John also took part) to win the battle of Lepanto 6 yrs after Malta's siege 1571.
This was a big turning point for the empire which never again tried to expand terrotry. Although they went on to conquer Cyprus some time later.
Then the big turning point came in 1683 when the ottmans were held and defeated at the gates of Vienna at the very heart of Europe..(the 1683 siege was the second attempt as another siege was done in 1529)
