The Muslim Brotherhood candidate just became Egypt's president. It's horrible that the final two candidates were an Islamist and a member from Mubarak's regime, but that's what democracy without education brings!

Maldini was one of the best defenders of all time. Cannavaro was a fine player as well, though not as spectacular, yet still superior to all three defenders of that "modern" lineup. Beckham, I agree, he was an overrated prick who couldn't do much else other than cross from deep in a 4-4-2 hoping some tall guy could bumble in a goal.

I agree completely with quaazi, although Beckham was capable of some great free kicks too.

However, the present team isn't exactly the best either, and Cannavaro is still better than Terry (IMO)

Ronaldinho > Iniesta (IMO)
Zidane > Xavi
Beckham < Ronaldo
Makelele < Xabi Alonso
Roberto Carlos > Ramos
Cannavaro > Terry

The last two that remain cannot be compared, Maldini and Messi. However, one was one of the best defenders of all time while the other is one of the best forwards of all time.
