I doubt UEFA would boycott the World Cup. They don't have the guts to do it. They'll let Blatter end his fifth term in peace by merely releasing a statement regarding their disappointment about his re-election but in the end it's going to be business as usual. The only hope fans can have now is the Swiss investigation into the awarding of the 2018 and 2022 World Cup to Russia and Qatar. It's insane how Qatar could even be permitted to enter a bid from a spectator point of view but it's well known FIFA is corrupt by now so it's not surprising. I think England should be awarded the 2022 World Cup but the inquiry will end in disappointment (nothing will happen) just like the farcical election today.

A bit off topic, but Kalle should go for the UEFA presidency. We would get real FFP then.

I know right? There was this alleged paper which seems to be a bribe basically involving the vice president about the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, and then FIFA announced an impromptu presser. It seemed like they will be firing more officials or at least something as significant, but this bombshell was unexpected. Hopefully change for the good.

I don't understand something here. So, according to the letter, is FIFA corrupted or S.African government? Is that Diaspora some physical person or just organization which S.African gov decided to finance for some or other reason? I'm totally lost here. And what that Valcke guy got to do with it, he just got the letter.

Well both briber and recipient are at fault in any bribing scheme, I guess.

$10m paid by the South African FA <-> World Cup was indeed held there. Not exactly a two and two being put together I know, I don't fully understand the whole thing either. The press takes it as a bribe and FIFA is in turmoil so that's good enough for me.

The Diaspora thing I have no idea. Slightly separate political matter which was involved in this maybe.

So lets summarize what we know from that letter: S.Africans decided not to take all the money earmarked for WC organizing from the FIFA. They wanted 10 mln of rightfully their money to be transferred to Legacy Diaspora which sounds like some kind of fund for something and not to Warner. That fund supposed to be administered and put to work by CONCACAF president whoever that was. Was Warner president at that time and stole the money? Now maybe that Warner guy voted for S.Africa to have WC under condition that they will support Diaspora which is maybe private fund of Warner (then it's bribe) and if it's not (maybe it is some football development fund for CONCACAF) then where is bribe?
And once more what FIFA got to do with it? Should they investigate why S.Africa doesn't want all the money and wants to support some Diaspora instead?
What about all those fixed games in Europe or affairs with refs, should UEFA be kicked out too?

http://www.fifa.com/governance/news/y=2 ... 17422.html

Neither the Secretary General Jérôme Valcke nor any other member of FIFA’s senior management were involved in the initiation, approval and implementation of the above project.

From the letter, Valcke actually was involved because the letter was addressed to him.

http://www.rdm.co.za/politics/2015/06/0 ... riminating

In light of this unexplained windfall from the government, SAFA now asked that FIFA "withholds an amount of US$10 million from the Organising Committee's future operational budget funding and thereafter advances the amount to the Diaspora Legacy Programme."

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that this is a convoluted way for the South African government to pay CONCACAF's newly invented Diaspora Legacy Programme US$10 million without ever having to explain this indulgence to taxpayers.

Seems like the Diaspora programme was a smokescreen through which the money is administered with Warner accepting the money behind it. And all that over the approval, or at least acknowledgment, of Valcke.

Ok, but who actually took the money? Warner or Diaspora, if Diaspora, then was it used for something (except paying Warner and others in which case it would be bribe)? Does anybody know that? http://web.worldbank.org/WBSITE/EXTERNA ... 44,00.html
After reading above article I think World Bank was involved in it also. Good they have headquarters in Washington, DC close to FBI.

Yeah, fair questions. With what we knew (or assumed or investigated) and everything that leads to the corruption allegation, it's as simple as Warner = Diaspora (= Valcke), it seems.

Months ago I watched a film on FIFA which was more of a propaganda about good old Blatter.
Fifa was a corrupt organization from the onset. The first edition in Uruguay was already full of corruption. Uruguay was chosen after a promise by the then Fifa Pres (I don't remember what was all about) Many European teams did not participate who because of the travelling involved and who for other reasons.
The 1934 held in Fascist Italy under Benito Mussolini was marred by obscene corruption - won by Italy of course  In France 1938 Italy won again and because of the WWII they kept the Jules Rimet home until 1950 in Brazil. When the Fifa committee met again the FIFA Pres asked the Italian FA Pres to give it back cause it has been for too long in the wrong hands !
1966
1978 were also both controversial...
2002 South Korea were ushered to the semis
