Re: Documentaries

Postby ottackon » Sun Feb 05, 2017 1:04 pm

I've watched the first episode of this documentary, but the truth is, it left me a bit unsatisfied because it does not go beyond the Middle Ages to answer this primordial question: why did the western civilization conquer the world ?
The answer is, because the europeans happened to live on the Eurasian continent, so they were lucky enough to start agriculture earlier than any other place on earth. In fact, the first place people started farming and tending animals was in the Fertile Crescent in the Middle East near present-day Syria, Jordan, and Iraq. Agriculture was invented in other parts of the globe much later in the historical time line.
The people on the Eurasian continent got a huge head start. They started farming 2000 years, 4000 years, and in some cases 6000 years earlier than other places! Just by luck, they were at the right latitude with the right combination of available animals and plants that could be domesticated. And with a head start of thousands of years, their technology was more advanced. And because of their close association with their domesticated animals, they carried many diseases to which they had resistance but people from other continents did not.

Much of the global inequality seen today comes from this original source, and in this documentary based on the book "Guns, Germs and Steel: A short history of everybody for the last 13,000 years" by professor Jared Diamond, "he explains why Eurasian and North African civilizations have survived and conquered others, while arguing against the idea that Eurasian hegemony is due to any form of Eurasian intellectual, moral, or inherent genetic superiority. Diamond argues that the gaps in power and technology between human societies originate primarily in environmental differences, which are amplified by various positive feedback loops. When cultural or genetic differences have favored Eurasians (for example, written language or the development among Eurasians of resistance to endemic diseases), he asserts that these advantages occurred because of the influence of geography on societies and cultures (for example, by facilitating commerce and trade between different cultures) and were not inherent in the Eurasian genomes."

In the meantime, in the “only democracy in the Middle-East”…

Daily life in the “Jewish state of Israel with its eternal capital Jerusalem”, life goes on. Or does it? You tell me.

I have seen videos and docs which I think I have posted here which show the real face of these fake people...

They are the most racist nation in the world but then every January they tell us "never again"...
They hate African Jews and the small comm of African migrants...

BARBARIANS RISING [source]

I just finished watching episodes from this series on History Channel.
I was impressed by the Lusitans never thought that they fought like that...

I've seen before docs about Arminius (the Germanic guy who defeated the Romans) and about those who fought the Romans in today's Britain but about the Lusitans I had never seen or read anything before....

The Doc started with the great feat of the Great Carthagen General Hannibal

Last Sat it was the time of Arminius and a lady with balls of steel who almost defeated the Romans in Britain. (Forgot her name)
Next Sat it will be Attila's turn to feature

What are you referring to?

Is it Boudicea? I remember that character fondly because the clearest thing my father remembers from his visit to London many decades ago is her monument (for some reason), so I took countless photos of it

Yes her... The World is crying for leaders like her and the others being featured in these docs.

March 11, 2016 - On the Indonesian island of Sulawesi, the Torajan people believe that a person is not truly dead until water buffalo have been sacrificed at their funeral, serving as the vehicle to the afterlife. Until that time, the bodies are may be kept at the family's home for weeks, months or years and are fed and cared for as if they were alive. Some Torajans continue their relationship with the dead through a ma'nene' ceremony, a type of "second funeral" in which families bring out their ancestors every few years and change their clothes and clean their bodies and crypts. [source]

Not exactly a documentary. Watch the 'history of japan' one too if you haven't. According to my friend who's father is a historian, it's very accurate, more informative than your common person would know. I assume this one is the same.
