On the motorway I have got my Golf to do 60mpg according to google that is 4.7L/100km. In everyday driving motorway/city I can get about 55mpg which is 5.1L/100km. When I brought it it was quoted to be able to do 4L/100km on the brochure but I've never got close. it's probably possible but only if you drive down the motorway at a constant 60mph (97kph) and put premium diesel in it always. How you've managed 4L/100kph in a Golf R Id be fascinated to know?

Well, as you said, constant speed is the key plus taking advantage of the rolling idle (which means 0 consumption). In general you have to learn your car to get the maximum of it, for example I get better consumption with speeds @ 110-120 km/h and 1800-2000 rpms than going with 80 km/h with higher rpms. Also dsg7 in D mode really helps (and premium diesel, but I rarely use it).

To be honest, in the last month I am somewhere between 3.9-4.3 while returning from work (today I got 4.2), a distance of about 35 km, with 25 motorway and 10 in city.

BTW, I have the RLine, not golf R (only the looks of it :) ). Mine has the 1.6 engine, same as yours.

Yes Audi are probably the worst cars in terms of value for money.

Fabia! Best in it's class. Top reliability ratings. Sexually neutral. Chic magnet too. (Oh come on, it's a car thread dammit.)

Well, audi is in VW group afterall :)

I was torn between my Golf and an Audi A3, but the audi was 5000 euros more expensive with the same engine, same gearbox etc and tbh I kind of like the looks of golf mk7 R-Line more (don't call me crazy). If the other option was A4 or A3 sedan it would be different, but then I would need 10000-15000 euros more.

...and Porsche is on the brink of dethroning Audi's grip on Le Mans. They'll grab one and two spots with just a year back on business. Dammit you thought those hybrids were just for environmental advocate maggots. Now they are winning races!

Actually I have always wondered why BMW is not a major sponsor, since they share the same city with Bayern. I have always had only Bimmers and perhaps that will stay like that forever. Now I own an E39 530i from 2003, producing around 240 bhp after some light mods.
