Ballack and German national team future

Postby ballackfcb » Tue Jun 14, 2011 12:29 pm

I think he deserves a recall and as captain.
IMO he is a better player than the likes of Khedira and Kroos, although I do admit Schweinsteiger is currently better than the german maestro. :D

I must complaint. Options are severely limited. Missing "Over my dead, rotten, beaten to death with an Inter ice pick body."

This is football, not charity or an old people's home. The whole point of competing in football is to try your best to win. To do that, the coach (Loew in this case) should choose who he thinks are the best players for the job. Once nostalgia and respect start getting in the way of player selections, the results are sure to suffer. If you want an example, look no further than Italy during the last World Cup, who ended up rock bottom in their group with the squad's backbone made up of old players who won the previous World Cup.

If Ballack is deemed to be better than other players, especially so if there's injuries to players ahead of him in the pecking order, then he should play. Otherwise, he should not play unless it's his farewell match (which he deserves).

To all his own. I strongly disagree. I want the German NT primarily to win and not to respect former legends. Otherwise we might as well be playing Beckenbauer and Gerd Mueller.

Though yes, in view of the injuries in the match against Azerbaijan, he could have been called. But recalling him would have generated so much fuss by the media that it would disrupt the team and end up having a negative effect, and then Loew will have to deal with the hundreds of reporters asking him if he intends to keep on playing Ballack.

By the way, I presume most german players mainly Lahm and Schweinsteiger would love Ballack to come back into the national team.
I don't think Germany have a chance of winning euro 2012 unless Ballack plays in the tournament.

MOST German players haven't even played with him or done so only a couple of times - Götze, Müller, Özil, Neuer, Hummels, the list is endless.

Two things. For one, Ballack is not good enough to be called up on his own merits anymore. And secondly, no need to retool a team that has been under development for a year now to accommodate on veteran who will not play more than a year anyway. Calling him up right now is just about the worst thing Löw can do short of calling up Ottl.
