Actually, I think some people know shit... Obamacare IMHO is one of the best damn things that ever happened to you...

Is it not true that Trump's leading in all the surveys?

Trump has something like 20-30% of the REPUBLICAN poll. Most of those people are just tired of Obama. Actually from the way some of you Europeans have been sounding lately it sounds like you could use him. :coffee: I'd take Trump over some of the right-wing loons you lot have over there.

It's just that Obama is not a leader at all. He's falling all over you guys so of course it's nice for you! :) Though in fact now you guys are taking the lead on Islamic State so I don't know why you guys would be happy with him.

As for health care, I just don't believe in a social component of anything. No one is going to care about you but you. I'd rather look out for myself than depend on someone giving me handouts. It's just not something I like about the way things are going in Europe, especially since we still have memories of Eastern Germany even if there is some weird nostalgia about everyone being equally miserable.

Also f*ck Trump. I like that he doesn't bullshit around but f*ck his racist shit. You guys have a like fifteen political parties so you'll only have a Trump in one of them. We have two political parties where he has 30% support in one. It makes us look worse than it actually is. No one gives a shit you guys have a Pirate f*cking Party for some reason.

We have a **** Pirate Party, not a Pirate **** party... That'd be disgusting... :P

Well, many people here think actually our politicians are bowing down too much to him... :D

And we have many Trumps - most of them in the usual suspect parties, some in CSU :P :D

Islamic State would not exist if it wasn't for Georgie junior... Obama's been cleaning up quite a bit of his mess IMHO... He can't do it all, and AFAIK you're still pretty safe, aren't you? It wasn't until Paris that Europe took action...

I can understand the viewpoint on the medical issue - at least to some extent - but I hear that people that were not too "well-off" actually got in big trouble when they got injured in the past because they didn't have insurance?! Sure, you can always be wour own windkeeper :P, but if you always live by that rule you(as a society) are gonna have WAY more problems at some point, son't you think?
Thanks for nothing, :pep: !!

We just had two terrorists in my home state kill something like twenty people. But yeah otherwise still pretty safe.

I just believe that if individuals look out for their economic self-interest, I will be better off in the long run. I don't really care about society. The fact that society in my opinion is better off as well is only a bonus for me.

Honestly if you like Obama you guys can have him. Not that it makes a difference since all politicians are corrupt.

How many of you are aware of the Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri ?

If he is to re write the poem today he will place Obama in the area resereved for those who did neither good nor bad...

Donald Trump has scrapped a planned trip to Israel saying he will reschedule "at a later date after I become President of the US".
Mr Trump tweeted that he is postponing the trip, which had become problematic for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu [source]

Malta has made it to one of the world's most important newspapers, for the wrong reasons.
The New York Times reports how an entire industry has emerged to promote a Mediterranean diet that promises to unlock the secrets of Greek and Italian islanders who stay active into their 100s.
Then there is Malta.
"Throughout the tiny archipelago in the middle of the Mediterranean between Italy and Libya, bulging waistlines are a common sight, spilling over at cafes near the vast battlements from where the islanders’ forebears repelled Ottoman invaders and launched raids on North African ships.
"At breakfast, customers line up for pastizzi, diamond-shaped pastries made with butter and lard and stuffed with ricotta-style cheese or mushy peas and often sold at small, family-run shops. Many return at lunch for timpana pies that are crammed with pasta and meat — and plenty of calories. Candy stores stack their window displays with jumbo packs of chocolates and biscuits, some from Britain, the colonial power here until 1964.
"Outlets serving jumbo hamburgers do a roaring trade. The newspaper spoke to Parliamentary Secretary Chris Fearne and former Health Minister Godfrey Farrugia on government efforts to tackle the problem, with the former saying obesity is "the biggest challenge” for this generation and the next.
... longevity on Malta could eventually decline as more islanders contract obesity-related diseases at younger ages and die earlier...
Islanders, it reports, reminisce about homemade soups with potatoes dug from their gardens and about a time when seafood was abundant in their diets.
The newspaper admits that Americans are still heavier on average than the Maltese, and the populations of some small island states in the South Pacific are heavier still. But in September, Malta, the smallest European Union country by geographical size and population pulled ahead of the Czech Republic as its most overweight, according to a report from the World Health Organisation.
Life expectancy, at 81.9 years, is still longer than the European Union average and slightly longer than in Greece. But that is lower than other Mediterranean countries including Italy, Spain and Cyprus, and longevity on Malta could eventually decline as more islanders contract obesity-related diseases at younger ages and die earlier, said Josanne Vassallo, an endocrinologist at the University of Malta Medical School.

It's a shame and definitely a huge problem in the Maltese mentality, though I think things are slowly changing (all the Maltese members here whom I've met are on the younger side and far from obese :) ).

One must also point out that it's much easier for percentages to be bigger with a smaller population. If you have 10 people, one of whom is overweight, that is 10%. If you have 100 people, and 8 are overweight, that is only 8%. I think percentages say a lot about the general lack of education/care on these matters, but perhaps less so on how widespread it is.

Some cheek coming from the New York Times though.
We will rise again! (when we stop burying our heads in the sand)

I think this is a lot more applicable to a general chat thread. I appreciate you guys including Americans in this.

But seriously I don't see the point of this thread.
