exactly. a lot of american gun advocates say that everyone needs a gun "for protection"... but people ignore that humans are emotional animals. in the heat of the moment, humans make illogical decisions... and if a gun is available and handy, an otherwise normal, sane person may make a decision they wouldn't normally make. statistics make it pretty clear - the more guns there are, the higher levels of gun violence there are.

It is a fantasy to believe that outlawing guns will solve the gun problem. The same as outlawing drugs has proved to be a fantasy.

The U.S. constitution allows for the right to own firearms.

I have an opinion, but won't argue one way or the other whether this is good or bad, it just is.

There are laws against mentally ill people buying and owning guns.

The real problem is those laws are not enforced, the reporting of mental problems is sporadic at best and, instead of trying to make such enforcement the issue, the gun and anti-gun lobbies continue to fight about gun and anti-gun.

Gun control? All the wrong guys are armed while the good ones are waiting like sheep to be slaughtered...
And what will be the penalty for this mad/gay man? Couple of years in jail and that's it? Maybe nothing because remember he killed some racists or he wasn't aware of his actions. :P Spare me the democratic BS.
Some people don't deserve their freedom... F#$% justice when people are already dead.
When a crazy gay mad man is armed, anyone can get a gun... anyone. And oh yes, there're gonna be guns...

A lot of these guns which are in crimes are bough illegally, I have a bunch of guns myself and its not fair for people like me to have restrictions with guns b/c of the small amount of gun related crimes. If you look at England, when they banned guns there was still guns crimes, it did dramatically decrees, but knife crimes went through the roof. Apparently it happens every 4 minutes in the UK(source listed below). I would much rather have a gun for protection than a knife, especially if I was a female(simply b/c it would be hard to defend myself, if I was a female, against a strong man).
If a thug wants to hurt or kill people he/she will do so one way or another. Guns have a lot of good purposes, sport, hunting, protection, collection, and so on. To put it in more of a prospective for football fans, if some person who doesn't really like football said in order to stop racism in football we can't have the world cup because it would lessen the mixing of different cultures....or so on.

Guns were clearly mentioned in the constitution for a very specific reason, lets not try to banish them to much :D

Not to mention that when ever legislation gets passed it seems to accumulate into more laws of the same nature getting stricter as time goes on.

The problem with guns compared to knives is that with guns you can do massive damage with little effort. You won't see someone going mad trying to murder 10 people one after the other with a knife because either he will get tired or the knife gets stuck or the knife gets broken (unless he's got multiple knives) or people are able to get away. :P

Guns are not for everyone... there are plenty of people of good sense that posses them but they never use them for bad. Unfortunately this world has guns, deal with it.

When Americans claim that guns are a neccessity for survival then there are two major factors missing. First of all how and why did the society get so badly violent and why is this accepted as "thats how it is in this world". Secondly they do no not understand that there exists other societies in the world where prohibition of guns and or major restrictions does in fact work.
The only argument one can use thats honest and true is " I like guns..." and thats it

Gun control is not a one-size-fits-all project; nor are there simple off the shelf solutions. Rather, policies have to be fitted to the problems and cultural contexts of particular societies. But first of all, societies have to acknowledge they have a problem.

Don't be so sure... There are no gangs in Germany? Germany must be paradise.
Europe isn't much different from the US, there are sick people everywhere.
I'm sure that if I wanted to find a gun in Germany I'd find one, wanna bet? :P
