Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara has headed back to Germany as he steps up his recovery from his latest knee injury.

The Spaniard has spent the last few months back in his native Barcelona following surgery to repair a tear to the medial collateral ligament in his right knee.

However, having started his rehabilitation in Spain, the 23-year-old will now continue the process with Bayern's medical staff.

"Thanks to all that you have helped me in these months. Back to Munchen," he wrote on Twitter.

Thiago has suffered three knee injuries since arriving in Bavaria from Barca in 2013. [source]

We desperately need Thiago back for his movement and creativity, I have a feeling if he makes it back by the end of the season we will see a huge improvement.

I used to think that, but with his recent injury record, we might be the only top team who wants him. That might make him resign for us

I think he meant he won't play this season, which I think is a bit absurd seeing as if he returns in a month's time there would still be two months left.

I'm not sure if he will stay fit for game play in time for this season.
Should we try him in a final game?
Or we'll be satisfied to watch Thiago play in BL unimportant end season game?

If he can participate in full training by mid-March he will surely get enough match practice before (hopefully) any finals.

From Bayern Central:
"Fortunately, there is some good news in the offing: today’s report is that Thiago is on his way back to Munich to resume his recovery. The player’s Twitter feed says “Back to München!” Now, that does not mean he is ready to start full training yet. He will probably first start with running and individual drills. If everything goes according to plan, the team is hopeful that Thiago could be back this season.

Matthias Sammer: "His rehab is completely on schedule. We will take good care of the boy."

So far, there is no prediction for a return to full team training, but for sure it will not be before the end of this month. [source]

Guardiola: "He can train with us in maybe two or three weeks' time. Then we'll have to see how his knee reacts. The doctor and Thiago are optimistic, so I am too."

"He's on the right track. It is the last phase of his treatment. His knee is okay." [source]
