Official generic player injury thread

Postby ottackon » Sun Dec 28, 2014 3:01 am

FC Bayern München sporting director Matthias Sammer expects defensive duo Holger Badstuber (thigh) and David Alaba (knee) to return to action early in the new year following injury."Holger is already well on the way; I reckon he'll be back in team training at the start of January," the 47-year-old told fcbayern.de. "David might take a few more days, he'll be integrated pretty quickly over the course of the winter training camp [in Doha, 9-17 January]."

Sammer remained noncommittal on the subject of Thiago Alcantara and Javi Martinez (both knee), but did say goalkeeper Tom Starke (ankle) is likely to make the trip to the Qatari capital. Bayern captain Philipp Lahm, meanwhile, "could be back by mid-late February" after suffering a fractured ankle in training on 18 November.

"The most important thing is their health, they've got all the time in the world," Sammer affirmed. "Lahm and Thiago won't go to the training camp. We still haven't made a decision about Javi. We'll come back to that at the start of the year. All the other players will be there."

Seems like all players are coming back before schedule. Badstuber was intended for mid January, Alaba for February, Martinez for mid-February (but if he could possibly go to the training camp he'd probably be back sooner) and Lahm was earmarked for end of March.

What's this thread for? For Bayern players' injury or any football player in general? :-k

This is potentially the most useful thread on injuries. If it gets, say weekly, summary updates on all the players out injured, it pulls together an overview that is far easier to keep up with, than delving into all the individual player threads for the information. I really like the green-amber-red coding too. Great idea.

Lahm will be back in mid-february, whereas Benatia has still not recovered from back pain.

Solo shifts for Götze and BenatiaMario Götze and Medhi Benatia were not among the group for the squad session.
Götze is nursing a groin strain and was restricted to light jogging, but he is expected to resume the squad programme in the next few days. Benatia is still recovering from a back injury and also completed an individual exercise session.
