Arjen Robben: begun sports rehab training. He completed a punishing stint on the bicycle ergometer before a session of light jogging on the treadmill.
David Alaba:was finally allowed out of plaster on Monday and is now wearing a splint, has started on the road to recovery with light stamina-building exercise, not as yet involving his injured knee.
Franck Ribéry, Mehdi Benatia and Javi Martínez : worked out in the weights room.
Bastian Schweinsteiger: still laid low with a virus but is expected back at the Säbener Strasse facility later this week.

And why is Martinez taking so long with the best staff, machines and technology available, was he hit by a bus? Our med department is overrated.

Because he got an injury that would have ended his career if it happened years ago.

It's a serious injury... we have one of the best medical staffs in the world, headed by Dr. Müller-Wohlfahrt...

Yea I used to think that too, but there are serious problems there, just remember the Thiago reinjury. Amateurism. Even Chelsea is doing a much better job with a female doctor.

The Thiago reinjury is a bad example to bring, because Thiago insisted on being treated by his doctor in Barcelona, so it wasn't Mueller-Wohlfahrt's fault. What HWMW can be accused of is that his initial estimates have been overly optimistic lately.

Also, stop being sexist.

There's nobody to blame here. I'd say its the fault of (1) success, (2) aging players, (3) the uniqueness of players, and (4) bad luck.
Not that I consider myself to be some grand expert or professor, far from it, but here are my thoughts.

1) Success: By being a successful team, you by default go deeper into cup competitions and will have more international players. That means your players play a whole lot of matches, which tires and weakens your body, increasing the likelihood of injury.

2) Aging players: Kind of flows form what I wrote above. Players like Schweinsteiger, Ribéry, Robben, Pizarro, Starke, etc are all on the wrong side of 30. They've played a ton of football in their careers and their bodies are slowly growing weaker. Does age account for Thiago or Alaba? No, but that leads me on.

3) Player uniqueness: Every human being has different genetics and different developmental stages, which lead to certain parts of certain people's bodies being stronger or weaker than those of others. If you're unlucky enough to have a serious injury (or perhaps a genetic defect) in a knee or an ankle, it becomes weaker than it was before and more likely to be injured again (See Thiago, Alaba, or Badstuber.)

4) Luck: Speaks for itself. There's no predicting injuries like Javi's in the super cup or Alaba's in a friendly match. These are things that are beyond anyone's control and are just part of the nature of football.
