and that's why I wanted him to play there, Vidal won't be enough to tackle and win the ball from Atleti players. I'm still shocked after that Saúl goal, so I'm lowkey hoping for the treble formation.

Nobody in the world plays the same role as Mueller, so what do we do when he's not on the pitch? Different roles doesn't mean players cannot be interchanged.

To a certain extent. Different profiles, different niches. Martinez would be useless against teams who defend deep because we wouldn't need a destroyer, while a ball distributing regista like Alonso could be the key to open up a deep (b)lock. Meanwhile against team who press aggresively we can afford to sacrifice control in midfield for ball winners, someone who could increase our chances of having the ball. Interchangeable in terms of the fact that they can both nominally slot in as a CDM pivot, but the game plan would be entirely different depending on who we'd have. For instance I would easily select Javi over Alonso when we play Barca or Dortmund, but I wouldn't necessarily overlook Alonso against teams like Madrid.

Alonso has a specific role in the team, which is the deep-lying playmaker and nobody at Bayern is better than him in that position right now.

Yes, just like Martinez and Schweinsteiger in 2013, not enough creative, that could never work. Oh, wait! #-o #-o #-o

That's where Thiago comes in.

The treble formation relied on the wings for creativity. Vidal-Javi is too defensive UNLESS we get 2013-level Robbery back, which I think is unlikely. In any case, Thiago is a must so I can't see a treble formation being the staple this season.

If I recall correctly, Gervinho shitted on your beloved treble formation and that almost became a double-and-Round-of-16-formation.

I 'm sorry but I don't agree with your post. Why would you think our wings are any less "creative" than those in 2013? Yes, Ribery is not as explosive, but other than that, I think we may be even stronger on the wings than in 2013. Hopefully we will soon have to pick from Thomas, Robbery, Coman and Costa. And I consider each of them world class, Coman would probably be my last pick because he is inexperienced (for important cl matches).

Yes in fact with some particular formations and tactics we missed two years from European domination

Are you a psychic ? You're saying that had we played 4-2-3-1 we would have 8 CLs by now ?

LoL.

And by the way. There was one gave under Pep that he deployed the so called "treble formation": was against Real Madrid in the AA. Yeah, that went really well.
