Yes they said so in the live ticker of the match against Valencia. Apparently he was sitting on the bench with icepacks on his knee

Javi Martinez: Saisonstart stark gefährdet - Kicker [source]

Not sounding too good, talking about October already.

After the treble, Javi has been disappeared. In first Guardiola season, Javi wasn’t taking in consideration. Next season, he was but suffered a serious injury. It is time for players like Badstuber and Javi to stand up again.

He was...But at the start of the season he had to undergo hip surgery and in the middle of the season he was injured again...

Pep said he was injured for nearly a year and now needs a lot of time.

I'm to the point where anything we get from Javi, Badstuber, or Ribery this year is a bonus....

penciling those guys into starting spots is just not a good idea.... they need to have 3-4 weeks or healthy/steady play and then you can start mixing them in.... but depending on them to fill those roles is probably not a good idea

Javi and Badstuber... two greats who are having the prime of their careers taken away by injury. What a shame :(

Some pain and swelling can be natural after knee surgeries, it might take 1-2 months for that to disappear. It's not as big of an issue by itself, so he might be ready to play by September.
