Robben needs match practice to ascend to the level he was at the year we got to the final.

Of course. That was his best season ever, because he was playing very often and rarely got injured. That helped him improve.

The reason is a back injury. Am I right in thinking that this is not related to the pain he was feeling earlier, or is it?

He reported backpains earlier IIRC, so I'd wager it is related.

Seems more like a precaution because of the pain he was already feeling, rather than a new injury. I'm glad we're trying to minimize risks

I am glad we have the luxury of trying to minimize risks, as I think back to last year's horror show of players out.

Our rotation policy will actually help situations like this where we need to get Robben more fit. Heynckes said he could have fielded Robben if necessary, but no need to risk things.

Exactly. With our stars so injury-prone rotation is even more important.

Note that Heynckes also subbed them out against HSV when it was obvious we had won. LVG almost always kept them on the field for 90 minutes.
