Our days of signing any German player we like are over. We have competition now, in the East.

I fear that this might be the case

Serge Gnabry is the first Germany debutant to score a hat-trick since Dieter Müller in 1976.

He is keeping his goals for when it matters... against Italy, which is less of a friendly than the 'competitive' match against San Marino.

Wow, this San Marino official is REALLY pissed off at Thomas Mueller's comments that the match served for nothing:

Haha the guy was fantastic despite that it's ridiculous to play against such teams and I agree with Muller but there are some things that you don't say out of respect and only, Muller was foul on his comment and then he got deservedly Müllered

Hats off to Alan Gasperoni!

To be fair, the guy Alan Gasperoni was way overboard in my opinion. He was downright rude and insulting. I saw a potential (and disputable) World War II reference in there as well, in the original Italian text.

Yeah, that's why I don't fully agree with him. But on many points he's correct

So did Muller, if Thomas thinks he wastes his time against those teams then he can retire from German NT and play the games he thinks he suits him well, these are the rules and the fixtures he must obey accordingly without insulting opponents.

Muller is a professional player, he has been told to play, he should play without complaining, period.
He offended San Marino and he got exactly what he deserved, Muller's job is to play football not to comment on the rules or make them, there are other people who get paid to do that, respect must be paid to the opponent at the fullest.

this matches suck and everyone knows that. nearly all fans i know dont care for them and the friendlies as well. they are just disrupting the "real" Football. müller is a professional, because he played, but he is also a human being with his own opinion and he has no fear saying it (thats a reason i like him, because he is one of the few Players who openly speaks).
if i want to Play against Bayern, i have to do more than just be in a Amateur Club, i have to qualify, i have to accomplish something. san marino and its Players didnt accomplish anything....except being a Country.

I'm from a small nation and I wouldn't have found it insulting if he said the same thing about Malta. I agree wholeheartedly with Thomas Mueller, it IS a waste of time. I'm not saying these small nations shouldn't participate, but rather that there would be extra qualifying round/groups to filter out the weakest. It's what happens with club football. You don't see a football club from San Marino playing in the Champions League group stage, and you'd probably think it'd be a waste of time for Bayern to play them. They still have a way open though: if they get through the qualifying rounds, they get to play against the big boys.
