Brandt barely played today, but I did like his offensive game a lot. I think maybe he could work on his defense a bit, but he only just turned 21 and he has time.

Great game, as I expected they're in the final to lead the battle against Chile.

Interesting that exactly 6 years ago Mexico and Germany played the U17 Semifinal held in Mexico, it was a very fine German side captained by Emre Can that came short losing 2-3 with two late Mexican goals. Mexico went all the way to win the final versus Uruguay.
At the time there was a lot of expectations in Mexico about this generation, even more after they won the Olympics the next year in London against Brazil.

Now, a German side mainly conformed by players of that 2011 U17 generation (although most of that roster failed to develop sufficiently to be in this team) trashes the best Mexican Team that Osorio can put together for this tournament. A kind of a drastic contrast how Germany is able to develop its talent to the point that those promising players were relegated by others of the same age, while the Mexican counterpart can't break through and those that retained their spot seem to be in regression. Come on, Rafa Marquez could the father of half of the German team.

The moment I saw Emre Can next to a Mexican jersey, that match came to my mind.

There were some good prospects in that U17 German team like Yesil, Weiser and Emre Can.

And a new role is henceforth born: "der Mittelfeldraumdeuter". Leon Goretzka take a bow.

I guess that's part of the joke; Hummels playing in a Mexico shirt helped Germany through

I think you're overthinking it. He was probably just pointing out the resemblance and said that it's like it was him playing.
