The NT misses Badstuber much, much more than Bayern ever did. At the moment the only defender who consistently performs well for the NT is Lahm. Hopefully Schmelzer, Hummels and Boateng will decide to show up for the world cup.

To be fair, Mertesacker has been very solid so far this season for Arsenal, and the Boateng-Merte duo for the NT produced great performances as well. I still think that Hummels will take over Merte's spot to pair with Boateng in the World Cup eventually, but I don't see a defensive crisis in terms of players. The NT's error-prone defense is more related to Loew's tactics than the players.

Maybe it's unfair but I will never trust Mertesacker enough to be unconcerned if he's a starter at the WC. Even if he plays a great tournament, I would still be worried sick every time he's up against a forward in the final. :P

Back to the European derby as it was described yesterday night on a sport prog called ''Sfide'' (challenges) on Rai 3.
This prog featured all the games in major tournaments between Germany & its bestia nera...
The 1970 S/F kicked off the jinx. Then it was the WC Final 1982 were the Germans were outclassed although there were rumours of doping by the Italian players. Some German players said that they couldn't even run they were just exhausted...

Euro 1996 was the only time when Germany had the last laugh...

then it was 2006 :( Cannavaro said: The Germans seemed all as big as giants however he noticed something that I recall noticing myself on that particular day and AGAIN in last year's S/F... This was the fact that no German player has looked any other italian player directly in the eye. And from that moment (2006) Cannavaro sensed that the Germans were afraid, stressed and tensed he immediately turned to Buffon and told him that they have already owned them!

The prog ended by the presenter quoting Liniker's famous quote (you know which one) adding that it only counts when Germany is not playing Ita

I just pray that Germany draws Italy in the Group stage; I think it is the safest stage to play them and can be an ideal chance to eliminate them. They become very dangerous once they are out of the group stage.

I believe Italy has been historically the World Cup's most hated upsetter. So yes, time's up for the Azzurri.

Klose is now in a very critical stage of his career. The poor man sustains an injury every other week. I have the bad feeling that he won't make it to the WC.

Kiessling is a lost cause. I think Volland might get a chance as he's had been playing great recently, especially against us.

He pulled out of the under 21 squad due to injury.

I think Schurrle is the best option in Low's tactics...
The false forward will be like lost man in a defence like the Italian one !

Neuer is playing against Italy. Weidenfeller will have to wait for Wembley for a chance to make his Germany debut.

Furthermore, Klose is out with a dislocated shoulder, while Oezil and Mertesacker will probably be missing due to flu. [source]

Volles Haus heute an der Säbener Straße: Im Vordergrund trainiert der FC Bayern München, im Hintergrund der DFB. // Full house at Säbener Straße today: FCB train in red, while Germany train in white.

Something what you can't see often. Guardiola, ten Hag, Gerland and on the other side Löw. :)
