Can somebody help me with this pls? Basti won both tosses right? so how the hell he chose the side where the italians were and also opted not to start shooting?

No. I heard the commentators say that Poland and Switzerland got eliminated from the penalty shootout because their supporters were behind the goal. So he made the right choice.

I suspect they might have prepared for having to shoot second (maybe they wanted Neuer to have as less pressure as possible) but I don't know why they chose that side.

I really enjoyed in this match although many people will say it wasn't spectacular at all. But it was a chess battle and Germans ended up as the winners. Germany were better team yet German creativity suffer big time during the whole match, but Löw ensured that his team won't suffer from the Italian counter-attacks.

Boateng... Come fly with me baby!      Ballet at its best on the green pitch!   Everything was more than fine until that silly ballet jump and the penalty. Italian players were booked in less than 10 minutes three times! That had shown in what kind of condition were these guys, but the penalty as their only highlight moment returned them to life and then they even started playing football and shooting to Neuer's goal.

Extra time... Skip.

Penalty shootout... Wow, I've never enjoyed before like last night. So relaxed and so many misses that you couldn't believe these guys were Germans and Italians, but seriously... I bet they were all tired like hell and the kicks looked so silly. Neuer saved, but Buffon and Italy were those who had one more step to move and knock out Germany. Graziano Pelle screwed up the whole thing and later Germany won.
It was once again incredible to see one GK jumping almost every time in the side where the ball was shot, but Buffon couldn't catch any of them and then his player missed and decided the winner of 1/4 final.

All in all, Germany finally managed to pass Italy. They won 4-1 in a friendly match before EC, now they qualified after the penalties. From now on, they can count to win Italy in 90 minutes in the future clashes.

p.s. Ohhhhh yes... MARIO GOMEZ! What a pass from the wing for Hector! =D> =D> =D> =D>

He said he thought about the past:

2012 in Madrid we were shooting at () the Madridistas and won... And in Munich towards the Südkurve and we lost... And we had the second shot in Madrid and the first in Munich...

Maybe this was mentioned here, but i didn't see it. Why'd they go back to the white socks...and are they planning on sticking with them?

France don't scare me anyway

In all major tournament matches against hosts, Germany have won eleven times (two being pk shootouts) and have lost twice. They have won their last ten matches against hosts.

(Edit: Please forgive me if I end up posting this often :D )

"I did not want to disrespect Neuer. I wanted to deceive him. I saw that he dived before the penalty takers had hit their shot and he seemed to be flying to the corners. I tried to make him stay in the middle of his goal a bit longer by making the Panenka-gesture." [source]

Neuer putting the fear of god into strikers.

"I had just one job and that was to score the penalty. I would have become a phenomenon had I done that. I was a nobody when I arrived at the Euros and I am still a nobody now. But I have always given my all for the jersey of Italy"

Harsh and humble. Respect.
