Kimmich is in the roster for the 2017 U-21 EURO Championship next year in Poland. My understanding is that Löw will not call U21 players unless that Horst Hrubesch release them permanently for the senior side. This was one of the ideas implemented when the new NT program was rolled out after the 2004 debacle, to maintain the youth players together throughout their development and not rush them into the senior side.

Löw occasionally brings some U players to the senior side to give them a taste of their future (e.g. Sané) but only when strategically makes sense. It looks like with EURO 2016 so close this is not the right time for Kimmich since most likely he will be relegated to the bench or the 5 reserve players that will be dropped from the 27 men roster.

Hmm, at the same time though when players come "of age" they will lack experience. Even just being on the bench throughout a tournament and get a sniff of the atmosphere of the German camp etc would, in my opinion, be more beneficial than playing in some youth tournament that's pretty much meaningless.

Podolski will be the most capped player for Germany ever if I'm not mistaken he already is the 2nd most capped player. Loew and Podolski, better love story than Twilight.
And he's Germany's #10.

He is 3rd behind Matthäus (150 caps) and Klose (137 caps) but he is getting there, although recently he has been an unused sub which does not count, otherwise he will break all records because Loew is going to call him until he is as old as Bernie Sanders.

An interesting fact is that on goals scored he is also 3rd with 48 behind Klose (71) and Gerd Muller (68) but way ahead of any active player. A guy named Thomas Muller with 31 seems to be on its path to overtake him while Gomez stayed at 25 after being sidelined for a few years now.

Here is Kimmich answering to the same question after the game in Cologne:

http://www.dfb.de/en/news/detail/kimmic ... 1s-142256/

I think his approach is very valid: there is a risk when called at a young age: if a set of circumstances puts the young player on the field on a high profile game and there is an error then the player's career can be backtracked. In recent years players like Gotze and Kroos were moved up to the senior side before completing the U cycle and things went smooth for them but even with all the caution in some cases things were a disaster: Marc-Andre Ter Stegen is a good example of a failure.

Good formation except Ginter who hasn't seen the field lately for Dortmund. I predict Mustafi paired on the center with Hummels and Emre Can as a right back.

If someone sees Kimmich in Ginter or Hummels place, must be insane:). I can't see anything good in Bayern's defence we just survived this period and thats all.

Kimmich is playing really well at CB, IMO our best defender on our last couple of games(and then you'll mention that mistake against Juve but everyone has his brainfarts)... he maybe doesn't belong there but it's quite impressive of what that young fella is capable... playing as a fullback, CB, midfield and what not... his story is starting to look like a lot like Alaba's and IMO atm he's defensively better than Alaba... couldn't Germany make use of a player like that?

I think he is going to be used for the U21
