This, but with Schuerrle instead of Klose. Klose got his 16th goal and overtaken Der Bomber now, so it's no time to pay him any more favours. Schuerrle has simply been more prolific than him this tournament, and only Oezil's selfishness prevented him from getting a hat trick against Brazil.

I think that Klose should play for some minutes at least if not starter. After all, he does have a great scoring ratio against Argentina.

Personally I would like to see the same formation as against Brasil as many users said.

4 years ago I opened a similar thread with the following words:

World Cup 1986 Final: W.Germany - Argentina: 2-3
World Cup 1990 Final: W.Germany - Argentina: 1-0
World Cup 2006 Quarter-Finals : Germany - Argentina: 1 – 1 (a.e.t. - Klose and Ayala the 2 scorers), 4-2 on penalties.

World Cup 2010 Quarter-Finals : Germany - Argentina ????

A real class of the titans match. Two totally different types of teams - two totally different types of football against each other.
A match that anyone who likes football is waiting eagerly to watch, when a new world cup starts.

The 1986 final was the first WC final I saw and cheered for German NT.
Sadly we lose then but 4 years later Diego Maradona left the stadium crying while Matthäus, Klinsmann, Brehme and co. lift our 3rd World Cup trophy.

In 2006 after a thriller match Germany passed to semis.
4 years later we meet again in the QF. I hope that after 20 years Diego will leave the stadium crying again.

Go Germany!

That match ended with a big margin (4-0) and a great performance.

4 years later I can hope for a great display and performance but I surely pray and wish to witness the happiness I witnessed 24 years ago, during a night in 1990 when Matthäus raised the World Cup Trophy.

This is it! This is our chance again after so many years! Just win the trophy!

You put tears in my eyes, mate, you sure did. Because you and I are the same age we share very similar emotions about this final. 1986 was also the first World Cup I followed and I remember crying when Germany lost. Twenty four years is a long wait, but if Germany finally wins on Sunday again it would be well worth.

1990 is the first World Cup final I remember watching (I was 7 years old). And the Germans won. Let's win it again!

Me too ... I was 6. From that WC I recall very few games - Cameron - England, Italy - Argentina, Germany - England :D and the final. Although if I remember correctly I started watching it as from the last 30mins

The first WC memory I have is from 94. And I only remember the final against Italy.

First world cup I remember is 2002 (other than a very brief flash of an advertisement shown during the '98 world cup, and the McDonald's toys  ). Let's make it right!

Re: [2014-07-13] Germany vs Argentina

Argentina '78 started it for me. When Spain '82 came around, I was a bit older (of course) and following Brazil came with the territory. The climax of Jogo Bonito with Zico, Careca, Dr. Socratis, Falcao, Ether and Junior was simply an overload; everyone in that team scored. You simply could not stop them. Then the Italians showed up. I rather not talk about them.

By the time Mexico '86 came along, my Brazilian team had aged and that star studded team gave way to Argentina. But it really wasn't Argentina, it was really Maradona against the world. And he reigned. I used to watch his games on a Video 8 portable watchman for hours after school. He didn't score that final; those damn Germans didn't let him. It was my second true World Cup disappointment (Brazil vs Italy in '82 will never, ever, be forgotten.)

Italy '90 started really with Germany vs France; the game of the century. I remember rooting for Platini and the game was over. Dammit IT WAS OVER. And yet the announcer called for Rummenigge. I said, who? LOL here comes another German substitution. The guy simply didn't stop. He equalized the game; on extra time, two goals down; with a penalty area filled with more frenchmen than the Bastille on revolution day.

DAMMIT THOSE GERMANS! They simply never stop! It wasn't a cliché, it was real. That green shirt was awesome too. This is how I started following German football. It wasn't an overnight thing; like watching Maradona for ten minutes or Zico score an amazing free kick. It was more evolutory, it was sort of a Tarantino movie, you were kinda disgusted at first, then it grew up on you; then you couldn't stop watching it.

I'm planning to watch Pulp Fiction on Sunday, for the fourth - 'first time' again.

First WC I remember is 2002 because it was in Korea and Japan, it made the news in my football-ignorant country. And I was 11, bunch of old-timers. The husband of my cousin who is Swiss gave me a Deisler Germany shirt. What a way to start my path to football. \:D/

How old are you T?
(I guess I've seen most guys' pics here but not T's or quaazi's. Curious! :P )

Also, my first WC was 2002 when I was 13. :D
