I've learned about Reus' inj on Sat late morning as I was recovering from a severe hang-over from the night before! I was shocked and sad for both the player and the team. However after reflecting for some time I thought that it might put the players and coaching staff together and up the game more knowing that one of the main actors would be missing. The same situation with some teams when they end up playing with ten men making the life of the other team more difficult.

With Goetze coming in for either Podolski or Klose as sub (and Khedira as sub for Kroos).

Boateng as LB (as he was @2010).

Same here, very similar to last world cup, btw. Gotze the supersub.

I'm wondering whether the amount of time Kroos played in the last three friendlies suggests that he is central to Loew's plans at the World Cup. Anyone else wonder about that?

I think that definite starters will be Neuer, Mertesacker, Hummels, Kroos, Lahm and Podolski. I'd add Schweinsteiger, but I'm unsure of his fitness levels. And I'm nearly certain that, in the absence of Reus, Oezil will start.

By the way, I'm compiling that list by trying to guess Loew's selection from friendlies and the players' performances; it doesn't reflect my personal preferences.

I believe that early on in the training camp, Löw said that Kroos would be a central part of the plan. He played the full time in both of the friendlies that they had since training camp, so I would guess he is pretty important to Löw's plans.

My formation would now probablly be

But I think Klose could play the most important matches 60 min, no more in my book. Then Muller should play up front. In other games Elf should start with Muller as cf and Gotze next to Ozil, using Klose as a sub. As for lb I think Howedes is the most quality player. He is enough technically gifted to play there, in addition he would bring more physical presence in the team that we lack in midfield. When in form and not injured, he is good enough to shine on the biggest world stage. But considering friendlies, it looks like Lahm is lost to midfield even in Elf and Boateng will play rb, which is not ideal in my view.

As a curiosity formation with no injured german players would probably be

or Kroos instead of Poldi and Reus as a lw, hard to decide on that one.

I would love to see how would Ilkay and Basti would work together as they are both very good defensively and I dont have to emphasise their attacking skillset. The only disadvantage would be their aerial ability, but the presence of Howedes along with two other cbs would make up for that.

I believe that Schurrle must start as the lone striker... and Klose enters in the last 20or so minutes... We need muscle in the team and even Grosskreutz is not very popular here I think that he is needed.
I'd like to see this

Gross will double mark with Lahm that ballerina of CR7 and Schweinsteiger will do the same on the other wing with Howedes / Boa ...

Ozil, Gotze Draxler and Klose ready to step in...

So who is missing for Germany through injury? I think:

Schmelzer
Badstuber
Rode
Gundogan
Reus
Gomez
Kiessling

Any others?

The Bender twins, right? I'm not sure whats up with them but I had assumed...

I meant to pose the question, do you guys think Germany are the most influenced-by-injuries team in the World Cup? Or at least of those who are among the top 8-10 highest ranked? Other teams have problems but I don't know that any come close to these boys, especially considering many of the players who might still start for the team are coming off of recent injuries (Basti, Lahm, Neuer, Kedira)

Thanks.

We need just one more player for a whole squad of players missing the world cup

Robert Enke - Sebastian Rode, Holger Badstuber, Marcel Schmelzer, Lars Bender - Sven Bender, İlkay Gündoğan - Marco Reus - Mario Gomez, Stefan Kießling

I think ter Stegen is good enough to replace a man, who is not with us anymore.
