True, but he's too inconsistent for a knockout tournament, he's more of a league player. Plus his style doesn't really fit the NT's high pressing, pass and move style. He's great when it comes to finishing and positioning, but when it comes to build up play and combinations he's kinda useless.

He was a consistent goalscorer in the Euro 2012 qualifiers, so the claims that he doesn't fit the style and that he's inconsistent don't match up with the results.

26.03.2011 Germany vs Kazhakstan: the only match in which he didn't score, but he was only subbed in in the 65th minute. Also, this is over a year ago!
03.06.2011 Austria vs Germany: scored 2 goals
07.06.2011 Azerbaijan vs Germany: scored 1 goal, assisted another
07.10.2011 Turkey vs Germany: scored 1 goal
11.10.2011 Germany vs Belgium: scored 1 goal and assisted another in 77 mins played

Klose may have had more goals in the qualifiers, but now he's coming back from injury.

Well i'm a pretty open minded person so if he does play well in the 2 upcoming friendlies, sure why not, but we can't just play him in the group of death based on those results. Sure class is permanent, form is temporary, but in a 3 week tournament form really matters, and we can all agree Gomez has been going through a slump lately.

This is a philosophical question. For example, in my opinion goals in the semifinal are more important than in the final. When you score in the semifinals and progress, you give your team a chance to play in the final and possibly winning. I am thankful he choked in the final and not in the semifinal (where he scored 1 goal in open play, won a penalty and converted another penalty), otherwise we may have seen Ronaldo holding the Champions League trophy, and believe me, that's not a sight you'd want to see. I prefer to be a losing finalist than a losing semifinalist!

Furthermore, if it wasn't for his goals in the group stages, Bayern would have never made the final in the first place. He was very important against City and Napoli.

I think Gomez is the last thing this team needs with our current tactics. I'd rather play Klose, Schürrle, Reus or even Podolski there

I agree that Klose also misses a lot of goal chances with Germany, but his motivation, his work rate and his skills with this team make him world class when he wears German jersey. Sometimes I think that Klose with Germany was not the same player we had in Bayern 2 years ago.

He is like an extra midfielder. He runs, he can pass, he make good combos with the midfielders. =D>

BTW I read that Draxler could play today and according to Bundesliga.de it seems that we could play this sh!t as defesive line

Schmelzer---Mertesacker---Hummels---Höwedes
----------------------Wiese---------------------------

I hope they are wrong

I really agree, Klose is a phenomenal player, his passing, dribbling, positioning and shooting make him
a complete package.
Jesus saves, but Kahn does it better ;)

And we would have Gustavo and Badstuber playing in the final...

You know, I am looking at the highlights from Germany's World Cup run in '10, and... well, all three goals conceded before the 3rd place game (which is a non-game anyway) basically came from header. Serbia scored after Mertesacker (who else) missed a header, then there's the header against England. All I can deduce from that is that maybe Mertesacker isn't even useful in the air (like against Switzerland).

No, he isn't. Despite his height, he is losing a lot of headers. Maybe Loew give him some chances because of the experience factor (or because Hummels might be great with Dortmund but seems to suck with NT).

I think the Centre back pairing should be Boateng and Badstuber.

Draxler was awful for Poldi, Stegen conceded 5 in a nightmare Leno-Barca-esque game. But why Bender??!!!!

Never mind why ter Stegen, Draxler or S. Bender...
The real question is: why not Mertesacker?
