Löw has to drop Weidenfeller for the NT squad. This is unacceptable.

Players can get sick or injured. Even Iron Manu.

There is no such thing as dropping a player from the national team squad during this time though. Basically, there is no squad. Next match, Loew will choose a team and at that time would decide who his best players are. He is not going to make a press conference and announce that Weidenfeller will never play for Germany again or something like that. For all we know, he could regain his form.

Own fault. All young german supertalents that left the country early have failed or are stalling abroad.

Eisfeld, yesil, buchtmann, merkel... even gnarby. Just throwing away their talent.

=D>

And another =D> for the Bierhoff news.

Löw also said he's planning on nominating Badstuber again for the DFB squad, provided the Munich medical team doesn't see any problems with it.

Zelalem has played for Germany U15, U16 and U17 already, having been born in Germany. However after spending several years in the US, he can achieve American citizenship. If Zelalem, however, applies for US citizenship, according to German law he will lose his German citizenship, and thus become a non-EU player.

The 17 year old is highly promising and has already represented Arsenal's senior team.

Gedion Zelalem, now 18, has been included in Germany's U18 squad! [source]

So far he has represented Arsenal on 2 occasions, most recently last December when he played the whole second half away against Galatasaray in the Champions League.

An FC Bayern U19 central defender, Alexander Gschwend, has been included in the Germany U18 as well.

Two things on this one:

1) He has not accepted the call yet according to some Arsenal sources.
2) Even if he plays for Germany U18 he still can switch to the USA senior side later.

Based on what I heard on the weekly show ESPN FC he already committed to Jurgen Klinsmann who promised a quicker path to senior international football with the possibility of playing in the 2015 Gold Cup this summer and the Rio Olympics next year.

If I have to guess on this one, Zelalem for a reason became US citizen last December, if he had no plans to play for the USA he wouldn't have done it and with the depth in the offensive midfield area that Germany has right now: Reus, Gotze, Muller, Ozil, Bellarabi, Draxler, Sam, etc plus incoming talents like Max Meyer and Leroy Sane he will have a tough time trying to break into the team in the next 3-4 years. For the USA he can easily think about playing in Russia 2018.

^ Seems like he's not yet eligible to play for the USA and would need to be granted an exception which is expected around April time. So Germany are doing what they can in order to convince him otherwise.

Germany has called up Arsenal prospect Gedion Zelalem for its under-18 team camp next week, even though the 18-year-old has expressed interest in playing for the United States.

Zelalem was born in Germany but raised in Maryland and acquired United States citizenship in December, though he is currently ineligible to play for Jurgen Klinsmann's U.S. squad while navigating FIFA's complicated waiver laws.

Germany on Tuesday announced incoming players ahead of their U18 squad's two friendlies against France next week, but Zelalem has not confirmed that he has answered the call-up.

An Arsenal spokesman told ESPN FC that Zelalem has not informed the Premier League club if he will accept the invitation.

U.S. Soccer could receive an exception for Zelalem to play with the Americans, as FIFA can and does allow players to join the national teams of their naturalized countries if they are able to show their naturalization didn't violate the spirit of FIFA's law.

In January, U.S. Soccer president Sunil Gulati told ESPN FC that he was hoping the player would be green-lighted by April.

Based on precedent, FIFA should declare Zelalem eligible for the U.S., but since the world organizing body has yet to make a decision, the German Football Association appears to be making a push to claim him while it still can.

If and when Zelalem does become eligible to play for the United States, manager Jurgen Klinsmann said last week the will walk right into the Americans' first-choice squad.

"I think he's already at a level that he can definitely play on the senior team," Klinsmann said of Zelalem. "He's a special player."

If approved, Zelalem would immediately become a candidate to start for the U.S. at the under-20 World Cup in New Zealand this summer and, if the Americans qualify, for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. [source]
