Well, now what I don't understand is what is this about open leave? Are they chained to the wall or something? The game was in Wolfsburg, right? Even if it wasn't, what does work have to do with one attending the game?

Rage? Nah, it is something about asking nicely and getting a blunt response that doesn't click. Yeah, call me old fashioned. Anyhow Chill Pills welcomed.

Actually it's called passive aggressive. I still barely understand what an "open commission" is either frankly.

I'm guessing the 20,000 would have been filled in by the VW workers but they reaaaally can't because of work?

Workers at Volkswagen are working in shifts. Either two or three shifts. So yes, if you're working the night shift you can't possibly attend the game. If you're working the early morning shift you probably won't, because it means getting to sleep late and having to get up very early. If you're working the late shift, you'll probably either won't make it in time or at the very least you'll have to run.

And the stadium capacity is 30000. 21000 were there. There are 60000 people working at the Volkswagen factory in Wolfsburg. That's about half the citizens of Wolfsburg. So if VW workers aren't granted a leave for that day it does make a difference.

Also - probably a German "thing" - Wolfsburg is said to have no other fans than VW-workers (who kinda have to support them)...

Wolfsburg's not like Detroit, it's more like Silicon Valley... ;)

Damn, the working shifts (pretty much standard in all car factories around the world nowadays) thing does make sense. Pretty strange also, given the fact that they haven't played any CL games in quite some time. Guess meeting demand is more important than anything else nowadays.

I was under the impression they worked 4 days out of seven at their main plant. Guess that has changed as well.

Volkswagen is recalling six years of diesel vehicle models in the US and may have to pay billions in fines to settle allegations that it cheated on emissions tests, which mean that VfL will likely have less financial support in the future.

I'd say we'll better wait and see how far this will reach, Volkswagen Group includes Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Porsche, SEAT, Škoda and Volkswagen.
