General German football thread

Postby pyrasur » Wed Feb 17, 2016 1:13 pm

http://www.dw.com/en/successful-lawsuit ... 5#nomobile

Interesting case before German courts. Something about time-limited contracts and whether or not they conform to German labor laws. Allegedly potentially as significant as the Bosman ruling, but to me it seems that this might be limited to Germany whereas Bosman impacted the whole EU.

The article seems short on substance and more of a summary and I'm not a labor lawyer so I can't tell for sure how significant this is.

General German football thread

Postby pyrasur » Wed Feb 17, 2016 3:17 pm

Would that have affected all EU clubs though? My understanding was that the case was limited to Germany because of German labor laws, not European ones.

Not totally informed but from my limited understanding I'm glad he lost. I'm already opposed to politics interfering with business, but to act like footballers are normal everyday workers on an hourly wage is ridiculous. If Müller was unhappy about his contract he shouldn't have signed it to begin with.

Bundesliga needs to modify its financial model to assure its clubs don't have to sell their players, to big clubs home and abroad, they can build strong teams and several teams can challenge for title each year.

EPL were hyped and marketed as "competitive" for a decade when it was more of a one-horse race than Bundesliga with Ferguson at United, but with the current revenues they have, it really became the most competitive league in terms of possible financial competitiveness. They have several clubs with finances to build title challenging squads, including several clubs already buying German internationals and Bundesliga talent. At the end, international audiences enjoy leagues where there's more parity between teams and all teams have some of the best players, instead of best players being concentrated in just one or two teams.

To sell a sporting event to International audiences (especially to American audiences), you need star power and stars competing. Premier League did excellent marketing for years, but now they also have star coaches like Mourinho, Guardiola, Conte, Klopp, Wenger, Koeman, Pochettino and others all competing in the same league, buying best players from Germany, France, some from Spain, Belgium etc. At this rate, I'm afraid we'll see Tuchel also move there in a few years, maybe even Ancelotti when he's done working with us. If you keep the best talent at clubs, best coaches will work in Bundesliga instead of moving to PL.

Bundesliga clubs need to keep their best talents from being poached, by us or by English clubs. Times have changed. It's the age of money.

Bundesliga needs more money, the glamor and the parity EPL has. They need to repeal 50+1, have investors investing into clubs like Gladbach, HSV, Schalke, Köln, etc and install professional managements in some of them. Fans need to pay for pay TV so that they can offer more money to clubs (they can't offer the league better money if they're not selling it and making money). I want to see Bundesliga talent staying in the league. Otherwise the league will keep losing more talent, especially now that with Chinese and American money started buying Milan clubs and others, they will also join poaching Bundesliga talent like PL, and Bundesliga will end up like France. We're in the age of capitalism.

Yes, 50+1 needs to go. For the best clubs playing in Europe, there's the UEFA Financial Fair Play. However, the FFP is not relevant to the lower table clubs. If the 50+1 is removed, they could perhaps start to compete and worry later about FFP.

what about the 50+1 is imposed on every club in Europe...
A cap on transfer fee is imposed
and remove the free transfers for good
