Eintracht Braunschweig

Postby MUTU » Wed Aug 21, 2013 11:36 am

Eintracht Braunschweig have loaned Karim Bellerbi from Bayer Leverkusen. Bellarbi already used to play for Braunschweig from 2008 to 2011, and was then bought by Bayer Leverkusen where he scored against Bayern and against Barcelona. [source]

I hope this team survives, they have shown great fighting spirit in the last two games.

Braunschweig get their first point! Relegation most probably awaits them though.

BTW, I heard on one of the Bundesliga's preview shows that Braunschweig was the first team in football to incorporate a shirt sponsor. Can't remember which sponsor was it.

It was an alcohol company I think. Jaegermeister if I remeber the preview show correctly.

They had even changed their name for a while.

Then, in 1983, Eintracht Braunschweig found themselves in one of their regular financial straits and the DFB's great old nemesis, Gunter Mast, took centre stage again. Mast promised Eintracht money if the members would agree to change the club's name into Jagermeister Braunschweig. They did. [source]

Were they the first to use a kit sponsor ? When was that ?

Edit:

The First Football Shirt Sponsorship
At the beginning of the 1970’s pressure began to mount up for clubs to accept sponsorship deals from other companies not just the clothing manufacturers. The first ever sponsorship deal is said to be that of the West German team called Eintracht Braunschweig. They accepted a deal from Jagermeister to display their company logo on the front of their shirts in 1973. [source]
