Borusse wrote:Not really, derby is our last chance for CL spots this season, pretty much every game from now on is our last chance. We need to keep a winning streak, especially against a rival that we're chasing.

But what I mean is... if you win against Schalke and then get negative results in the rest of your campaign, the win against Schalke would have been only useful for the record books.

On the other hand, a win against Juve gets you a lot of money and allows you to progress to a next round of the most elite club competition.

So there's two sides to this. With focus on Juve you can reap results quicker. With focus on Schalke you increase the chances of getting a greater result at the end of the season (qualifying for CL).

Yeah, you might be right on that one.

He got sick, so many of our players were/are sick, some kind of a virus.

There is no chance for Borussia to qualify for CL at all. That would mean wining all games until the end of the season. They won last 3 with the bottom of the table teams and it's impossible at current level of play they present to win games against top BL teams.
In Juve game they presented themselves not bad in midfield but the rest was nonexistent. One goal they scored was just a gift, they can't expect something like that in the next game or in the games with Bayern or Wolfsburg......
They should concentrate on BL to get to EL (still ???) and get some additional money in next season when they try to consolidate their team (we will see what happens in summer transfer window).

It's doable.

They play Schalke next. If they beat them, they will be -7 from Schalke.
They will be -7, -8 or -10 from Augsburg
And they will be -5, -6 or -8 from Leverkusen.

So if they beat Schalke they will be anywhere between 7 points and 10 points away from a Champions League place with 11 matches left. It's tough, but it's doable.

I think it was a smart move by Klopp to rest players for the S04 fixture. Getting back to those CL spots is top priority for BvB

When is Bender expected to be back?

If there's a word that would describe their season, it's impossible. Who would have thought they'd be in the bottom this season? Impossible. Bouncing back will be very tough but certainly not nearly impossible. In the long run, teams show their quality. Despite all the shit and bad luck things on their way, they're still a top quality team.

And from all their lost points, they have been really beaten a couple times. Most have been just poor finishing and ref calls going against them. If they scored the chances they created, they could have lived with their shit defense. Perfect example, Frankfurt. The Schaaf rampage football has scored just slightly more than they conceded.

I approach problem from different angle - Bayern until now got 83.3% of all points possible, if we use the same measure to 12 games left for BVB, then they will get 30 points plus 25 they've got already and we get total score 55 points. In last 14 years only twice clubs in forth place had so low score, in 2008 -54 and 2013 55. And I don't think suddenly BVB reaches Bayern form, which was not, btw, enough to beat Wolfsburg and Schalke in last few games.
And 1 more aspect of the situation BVB found itself in, even if they beat those top teams they'll just reduce the point diff, those teams will still play and get more points and not just start losing their games one after another.

But the teams above BVB still have to play Bayern. So do Dortmund. But imagine a best case scenario for them where Bayern win all matches except against Dortmund (Dortmund win). Suddenly that best case of 7 points (Augsburg lose and Leverkusen draw/lose) becomes 4 points.

I know, loads of IFs. But it's doable.

Yes, it's doable in extreme situation, which means that the Football Gods give BVB all blessings and turn their ass to their opponents
