We in Asia (especially East and South East) do that in photos most of the time. :)

In Asia they do the peace sign, but this is the way it looks:

The way the Dortmund players are holding their hands is an insult in a number of countries, and never means "peace" or "victory". [source]

Yeah but those are women/girls, men/boys usually do it like how the Dortmund players does it to pose less cuter. I know it's the F sign in UK, doubt it's the intention of the Dortmund players really. They're posing for selfies and personal photos, not waging a war.

It also represents 'V' for Victory. :)

No, it does not.

The meaning of the V sign is partially dependent on the manner in which the hand is positioned:
- If the palm of the hand faces the signer (i.e., the back of the hand faces the observer), the sign signifies:
  • An insult. This usage is restricted largely to Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, and the United Kingdom.
  • The number '2' in American Sign Language.
- With the back of the hand facing the signer (palm of the hand facing the observer), it can mean:
  • two (the number) – a non-verbal communication of quantity.
  • Victory – in a setting of wartime or competition. It was first popularised in January 1941 by Victor de Laveleye, a Belgian politician, who asked the Belgians to choose the sign as a symbol of unity. First, it was mostly used in Belgium, but soon other allies copied the symbol. It is sometimes made using both hands with upraised arms as US President Eisenhower, and in imitation of him, Richard Nixon, used to do.
  • Peace, or friend – used around the world by peace and counter-culture groups; popularized in the American peace movement of the 1960s.
V (the letter) – used when spelling in American Sign Language.

Well, yes that's the assumption obviously. But someone from the Dortmund PR should warn them about such things and teach them to be more culturally-aware. I'm absolutely not offended by it, but I could well imagine some people being offended.

This is where they probably picked it up. Didn't they say in GQ they like Beiber  Image

There are people from UK here right? What do you think of the photos? For me, those are just poses for the camera since I pose like that too sometimes.

The "V" sign actually originates from the time of the Hundred Years War.

All Englishmen were required by law to learn to fire the longbow, and those two fingers of the right hand are used to draw back the arrow.

The use of the longbow pretty much guaranteed English domination over France for hundreds of years. Before and after battles the longbowmen would stick those two fingers in the air in defiance at the enemy.

Also, if captured or if England lost the battle longbowmen captured or killed would have those two fingers cut off.

It was popularized by Winston Churchill (above after VE Day).

Not offensive, depending on context. I have no idea why they are doing that, it doesn't make sense to me. I just think they look stupid doing it that way.

I've only ever seen it being used in an offensive manner here in Scotland.

Here's Barry Ferguson giving the "V" sign to photographers whilst on the Bench playing for Scotland.

I know who wasn't doing any V signs yesterday... Count Kloppola was downright weird last night. After the rant - and subsequent send off - everyone just looked bewildered while Napoli players were smiling and joking around at the scene.

Then Weidenfeller gets a red card in 1st half stoppage time. W  EiRDDd.
